• Senate Committee Clears Highway Funding Measure -
The Senate Finance Committee Tuesday evening passed a bill to provide funding for a two-year highway program.

The measure is a $9.6 billion bundle of transfers and revenue offsets that no one on the committee particularly liked as a solution to the highway funding shortfall but a majority accepted because failure to act would doom the highway bill.

Con-way Truckload is one of a growing list of carriers that are requiring pre-employment agility testing for drivers.


• DOT Freight Index Shows Largest Monthly Hike in 17 Years -
The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 3.9% in December from November, the largest monthly rise in 17 years, bringing the level of freight shipments to an all-time high, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics' Freight Transportation Services Index.

Construction kicked off in Florida's capital city on the first of a network of natural gas fueling stations.

Vipar Heavy Duty appointed Mark Iasiello as director of business development, national accounts.


• Pilot Flying J Acquires Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Truck Stop -
Pilot Flying J acquired the Olsons Truck Stop in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and will remodel the travel center with full amenities.


• Seven Feathers Truck & Travel Center Opens 87-Space Truck Parking Lot -
Seven Feathers Truck & Travel Center in southern Oregon opened a new 87-space parking area designed for long-haul commercial carriers on the I-5 corridor.


• IdleAir Opens 25th Location -
IdleAir, which offers drivers an alternative to idling engines while stopped, opened a new location in Albert Lea, Minn. on I-35, Exit 11 at I-90.
