• Nissan rolls out ‘right-sized’ NV200 compact cargo van -
CHICAGO. Widening the Class 1 commercial cargo-van segment by a third, Nissan North America (NNA) rolled out its new Nissan NV200 compact cargo van - the second distinct van model in its commercial-vehicle portfolio— here yesterday afternoon at the Chicago Auto Show. According to NNA, the 2013 model is a “new entry point” for cargo van and small pickup buyers “looking for a compact, efficient alternative to their larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles

A new smartphone application from Ryder System will assist users in locating truck rental facilities, maintenance, and fuel locations


• Navman Wireless adds speed monitoring service -
Navman Wireless is adding a GPS-based speed monitoring service for its OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking system. The service, made available through a partnership with SpeedGauge, can be added to any of Navman Wireless’ monthly subscription packages


• Paccar offers medium-duty warranty program on Kenworth trucks -
Paccar Financial is offering a 2-year, 200,000-mi. basic vehicle warranty on all eligible Kenworth Class 5-7 factory or dealer-stock vehicles financed through Paccar Financial. The vehicle must be financed before March 31, 2012


• FleetPride opens regional distribution center in Illinois -
FleetPride, the aftermarket distributor of heavy-duty truck and trailer parts, announced the opening of a new 122,000-sq.-ft. regional distribution center in Bolingbrook, IL, located at 1501 Remington Blvd


• PA trucking firm charged with falsifying driver logs -
D.A. Landis Trucking Inc., of Lancaster, PA, and its owner, Dean A. Landis, were accused of ordering drivers to falsify their daily work logs, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia, which charged both Landis Trucking and Landis with one count of conspiracy and 10 counts of making false statements


• Fuel filtering cart -
The Racor Division of Parker Hannifin Corp. has released a new fuel polishing cart, designed to help filter fuels such as diesel, biodiesel, and other petroleum hydrocarbon fluids


• Supply holding down DEF prices -
An ever-expanding supply base of diesel exhaust fluid or “DEF” is continuing to help prices inch lower in the U.S., while the opposite seems to be occurring in Canada, according to data tracked by global consulting firm Integer Research


• FMCSA orders Indiana trucking company to shut down -
Calling U&D Service Inc. an “imminent hazard,” the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ordered the Indianapolis, IN, carrier to cease all transportation services immediately


• Drivers shut down Seattle Port in protest of working conditions -
Hundreds of truck drivers at the Port of Seattle shut down their rigs last week to protest unsafe working conditions. In addition, more than 150 port drivers traveled to the state capitol Monday to support a bill allowing them the ability to inspect containers and refuse overweight loads
