Getting Your CDL: A Great Investment For Anyone

Getting you cdl is an outstanding investment in your future. Whenever you're considering a new career, including a career in truck driving, your primary concerns are if you'll enjoy your new career, if there will be job security, and whether or not you will make good money. When it comes to a career in trucking, the answer to all of these questions is a resounding yes!

But what about your CDL training? Is getting your CDL expensive? Is it time consuming? How difficult is it to get? Once again, the answer is one you'll want to hear - getting your cdl isn't very diffcult, time consuming, or expensive - especially when you consider all of the great benefits that go along with it!

First of all, how long does CDL training take? Well, it will depend on which school you choose but generally the trucking schools are between three and seven weeks long. Compare that to a four year degree, and a few weeks of backing up a truck doesn't seem too bad at all!

So what about job security? Is there a solid demand for truck drivers? You better believe it! There has been a shortage of truck drivers for several decades now and it is expected to continue as long as anyone dares to guess. Most people either have a job lined up before the schooling is done or are hired within a couple days of graduating. We actually had a recruiter come to our school from a local company and took several of us down to fill out applications. By the next day we were all hired! What more can you ask for than that?

And what about the money? The money is outstanding when you consider a couple of things. First of all, the schooling is quite inexpensive relative to your starting salary. You can expect to pay in the area of $2,500-$6,500 for the schooling and start out making about $35,000-$45,000 your first year. After a few years you can expect to be making $50,000+. And believe it or not, there are places you can find free truck driving schools! Well, almost free. Check out my blog called Becoming A Truck Driver Part 6: Free Truck Driving Schools and find out about more of the options you have.

Lastly, is truck driving an enjoyable career? You better believe it. At least it is if you are the right type of person for the job. Truck driving is not for everyone. It's more than just a career. It truly is a lifestyle. Check out another of my blogs on the trucking lifestyle Becoming A Truck Driver Part 3: How Do I Know If Trucking Is For Me? to find out more about life on the road.
