Chris K.'s Bio

I worked as a chef for 18 years and in 2004 I was laid off for the winter season. I on a whim went to driving school. I drove for Stevens Transport and Cooke Trucking(Mt. Airy, NC). I drove for about a year. I was on a break and a buddy of mine needed a chef so I returned to cooking. Like a dumb ass I didn't renew my Cdl. I am currently starting the process of training again.

Needing advice on trucking companies

There are a few smaller companies that offer training such as online transport or RE West. I believe they both pay during training, Re West definitely does. Of course where you are located may be an issue w these two. I would go w Swift over PAM personal opinion!🤔

Help me wrap my head around the decision to become a truck driver

thank-you.gif Ronnie Milsap, now that's a memory. And my two cents...give it a shot! I drove ten years ago and couldn't really decide whether I liked it or not, so I went back into restaurant business. And I let my Cdl lapse, so obviously I have to start from scratch. I really want to drive again but people in my life are making it difficult. I'm so burnt on the restaurant business. Pay is pitiful 15$ hr if you are lucky. If I want to put in 70+ hrs on my feet etc I could probably pull down 50,000$. Just do it!

I can't believe this.

Keep that positive attitude man! Best of luck! Keep your head high even if next month is rough." It's nature of the business, it's the smugglers blues".

Ready To Return To Trucking

Swift will be great for your training or retraining. I have seen ads by Western Express stating-"have Cdl but haven't driven in awhile, call us...yada yada. Just throwing another company out there for you!
