Marten Transportation

Good company when it comes to Safety, they are a no chain Carrier. They will never push you to do anything your not comfortable doing. They have an automatic detention pay policy and they keep you pretty busy and when I was there it was forced dispatch. The only few things I didn't like about them was Home Time issues, I lived in Idaho and they didn't run freight in there to much and most of the time had to relay my load in a drop yard they have there. I hated their scale pay, pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Better then Prime, C.R. England, Navajo and Swift for sure.

"Personal Opinion" Okay.. so people this is just based of my experience and everyone's experience with each carrier is different.

Boots and Gloves recommendation

Nike Football Gloves for me! Super easy to clean because of the slick surface on the palms. Each time after I fuel I wipe them of and you can never tell I just got fuel or did anything with them.

One of Those Days, or: Why I Love Driving for Interstate

Yup! Everyone is pretty friendly and they encourage drivers to interact with them vs versa. If you even want, you can sit down with your dispatcher for a day to better understand what they do. I've thought about it but I'm no longer a company driver, I can only imagine some of the crazy calls they get from drivers.

IDC is the best, just left the Terminal this morning. I like that they don't care if you come up and bug them when you've got nothing to do. I go up and bug the O/O girls all the time and just BS about random stuff.

IDC. Looks like Interstate Distributor Co. Right?

Sounds like the office ladies got great attitudes and like their jobs.

From Company truck driver to owner operator questions

Your the exact reason why I keep my conversations away from some of you, if individuals wanna ask questions in private I'm willing to discuss them to the best I can. I'm just sick and tired of being trolled by people but willing to help people still. I just wish to not deal with all the negativity. I personally didn't do anything to you. If a person is asking for some input and I'm willing to give some input to him that is all, is it wrong of me to engage in a conversation with him in private to avoid being ridiculed.

You my friend are the definition of an Online Bully!

From Company truck driver to owner operator questions

I wonder if there are any successful O/O and/or Lease Operators in this forum. Seems the veteran responses are anti O/O slash Lease Ops. If there are any successful O/Os or Lease Ops on here....do you consider yourself successful? If so what suggestions do you have for those who desire to do the same?

~scott

Feel free to hit me up, I consider myself a Successful O/O it took a bit of research but I feel like I'm doing way better than I was a Company Driver. My suggestion is to drive at least 1 Year minimum to see if this is what you really wan't and learn the basics of trucking. Also 90% if what Truckers tell you is "BS" there is always more to the story, they just ain't telling because then the Story wouldn't be as juicy. I personally avoid debating such subjects on this Forum but people sometimes hit me up with questions via Email.

Lease purchase on equipment of youre choice

Schneider is only paying 65% on dry van, I'm not sure if I could ever pull the trigger on that. I would have to know what cost they cover and cost of the truck weekly to better determine if they are even a viable option at making good money.

Check out Quality Companies they have a list of Carriers they work with and see if any of those Carriers are interesting to you. If you wanna talk more about O/O options feel free to message me. I try to stay away from public chatting about being an O/O

Who to contact

I noticed you live in Beaverton, OR. Try reaching out to Gordon Trucking before any of them, I don't know much about them but I know they have some Driver Training Program. It's not their program but I think its like a list of Qualified schools you could attend and then they reimburse you. I don't know but since you live in Norther Oregon I thought that might be the best bet for you. Their Terminal is real close to you.

That nagging question: Can I make more money at trucking as as owner operator?

My bad misunderstood what you was saying, sounds like your a company driver just interested in the subject of being an O/O but anyways I don't have a problem with freight in the West and running through Oregon.
