Hazmat and tankers endorsement

Just to provide an update, I did the HAZMAT test today at the Athens DDS. It was 30 questions of which you are allowed to have 6 incorrect answers. There was no problem with me not having received my TSA clearance yet and was instructed to come back when I had the clearance and the endorsement would then be added to my license.

I took my CDL permit test last month and did the Tanker endorsement at the same time. Wasn't allowed to do the Doubles/Triples or Hazmat until I have my license. Past my skills test just this Friday and went ahead and did my background check today and will go for the Hazmat endorsement end of this week, although they won't actually issue it until the background check comes back clear.

Speak to your manager and let him know that you miss the diversity of OTR and see what they can do for you. If you are under contract just like Bravo Zulu said, finish the year before starting at the bottom somewhere else and having to prove yourself again.

How to handle a blowout

Well besides the misleading title [Edit - Moderator changed the title], the video is very educational on how to handle a blowout. I'm not sure how someone came to a conclusion that a speed limiter would result in death during a blowout.

The video specifically states to leave yourself some extra power to deal with unexpected situations by not running your rig against the governor (speed limiter) all the time so you have some extra power in reserve.

Yeah, it is a little misleading which is why I titled the thread "How to handle a blowout" which is what it's about and I guess as you stated yourself, if you run at the governed limit you have no option to compensate for the cross forces by adding extra forward momentum. I suppose what they are suggesting is to run a little lower than max governed so you've still got a little oomph left in case you need it.

Does anyone else call about bad driving?

I'm sure most TT members are cautious drivers but have any of you every had a call from safety because someone reported unsafe driving? I sometimes think those numbers are just there to make the public feel like they can do something about it.

Then on the other hand, trucking companies probably get a lot of calls from the public complaining about something that one of their drivers is supposed to have done and it must be nearly impossible to follow up and rap someones knuckles unless there is some kind of proof.

The Swift driver I called about got off at the next exit after I called, even though there wasn't much there. It may have been unrelated but I strongly suspect he got call from safety.

In my first few months out, I received a call from safety that I was speeding in a work zone (I don't do it anymore). The only thing that makes sense to me is that someone called me in.
