Young old (72 on 26 July) lady that drove OTR 1988 - 1993 with a Chauffeur License, getting off the road because the husband hated driving & wanted to work cattle. In 1996 he suffered 2 Traumatic Brain Injuries & lived with the issues of that for 18 years. I cared for him all that time except his last 2 weeks of life. Knowing that he would be going to a nursing home, I went to school, got my CDL, got a job & getting the husband settled in at the home when he fell. That caused his death in Sept 2014.
The company gave me time and several weeks later I started driving team with my brother 😝 That lasted 2.5 mths and for the first time ever drove solo. I have now been on the road for over 9 years. My driving partner is an 9 yr old mini Rat Terrier guard dog.
If you want to chat while driving boring stretches of the road, you can call or text me at 208.293.6808. I generally run late mornings or afternoons into the night hours around midnight to 0200. I do not get up before 0900 as a rule 😁

Owner OPs leaving their truck running all night?
Some maybe will find this creepy, but most of my overnight runs anymore I park at my customer. The cemetary. Always nice and quiet.
People were just dying to get into the lot beside our goat pasture up in Montana 😉
Our place butted up to the cemetery in the little town of Ekalaka MT 😁😂🤣

Are you talking about one that you pull or one that you drive?
My baby brother has had motorhomes in the past but now has a fifth wheel three axle one that he pulls behind his pickup. Let me ask him if he ever thought about it.

When you hit the quote button, go down below the words:
/span /blockquote with <> around each of those 2 words
Type your comment several lines below those two words.
Then before hitting the submit button, hit the preview and look to see if your post is down below the box that you are quoting. That way your comment is not mixed up in the other person's message that you are replying to. Easy peasy.

Begining the process of becoming a Truck driver.
No, even if you can swing it, do NOT pay for a private school. Their only goal is to get you your CDL. Some do have companies come in and talk with you, but there is no guarantee of any job from those places. The longer you do not get a CDL job, it becomes stale and you have to repeat the training over again at a company.

Seeking Insights From Fellow Truckers
This site is to help beginners of all ages to get into the trucking world. Most all of the commentators here are company drivers.
However, we have one owner op that contributes to the forum pretty regularly. Hopefully PJ will see this and make a comment.
From what I took from your post is that you are a beginner in the trucking world. If you have been in it for a while you would already know the answers to your questions.
From my company driver perspective, if you are getting into Trucking ownership now, I would say that you are going to struggle in this down economy. Many companies, even reefers are struggling because people aren't buying as many things, including food...mainly just essentials.

Three of my four companies used TransFlo and the last one used the TransFlo ELD. My present company uses an app called Genius Scan. It takes pictures of the bills and other paperwork that we sometimes have to do, select the sharing button and then email. Once it's in my email all I have to do is type a couple letters and it pops up with the attached BOLs. Simple and easy.

My new company has learned that I'm easy to get along with. At my age, life is too short to create any sort of fuss about these driving jobs.
So a few days ago, I woke up to a text message from my load planner asking if I would do a favor. She needed a driver picked up that was stranded in Rapid City where I was going to drop a load. His truck's transmission had imploded and he had been sitting for several days. His load was picked up and taken on, but the driver that did that dropped his loaded trailer, so I had to pick up that one. Sure, that wasn't a big deal but I had a question. That day I had already driven 7 hours and my truck is not set up to take on another person. So I asked the office if he could do some of the driving and he did all of it, while I was trying to sleep behind him....that didn't turn out well. He sure could. In my pay statement today I got paid as if I had run that load solo, I got paid my full amount. That's cool I was expecting that they would do a team run or something. With me wanting to retire in a year or so, I'll take whatever money I can get.

Finally off to a new beginning…
Congratulations on getting hired with Western Express. They are a good company regardless of what anybody says. The reason they are a good company is because they are willing to take a chance on YOU.
Since you have read the posts on here, you know you need to stay with them at least one year or longer. Old School stayed with them for a while after his training and he made decent money. However, you have to be friendly with your dispatcher, be willing to take loads that others fuss about, be on time for pickup and delivery and not be a pain in the keister with the office people because they also have a part in drivers being successful.
Remember that companies can be choosy in this economy....so Get Out And Look (GOAL), practice backing wherever you can so you can become more proficient quicker, the only stupid question is the unasked one so don't hesitate to ask questions here.
Good luck
