Over before it started .

Patrick They say No Waivers. But maybe in year or two they will be ammending the law to allow people with controlled HCM to drive commercially again

Over before it started .

Well today was just a Sh**ty day was all set to go to roehl to get back into driving after long hiatus but was told today can never drive a truck again :-( due to having hypertropic cardiomyopethy I can never be certified , even though I've had all the surgeries and treatments to remedy the problem. Just bummed now I know rest of my life will be working some sh*t jobs that I hate.

I wanted to say Thank you for keeping up an awesome site for the present/future truckers out their this site is full of knowledge, both by drivers and all the sections to learn from. I will pop in once in awhile to say hi and read some good road stories :-)

Roehl Phase 2 Starts Tomorrow

Good luck Cindy on the next phase and congrats for passing the 1st phase :-) I'll be starting in appleton in 2 weeks after going back and forth with med team and Dr's for Cardiac release after I had open Heart surgery a year ago . Was a pain but in the end I know it will be worth it because this will be my 2nd venture into trucking.

Failed CDL Test 2nd Time

Chad hang in there and just keep practicing ANYTIME you can . The instructor that told you that you were "unworthy" doesn't need to be an instructor then. because if he was a decent instructor he wouldn't have aid anything but SHOWED you what you were doing wrong and how to adjust to it and had you keep practicing that .

Not looking good for me....

Eric hang in there like everything you will get better with practice and more practice . SOON you will be a MASTER of backing into any dock . One thing you can do is talk with your trainer and on say some downtime maybe he can help you practice in an empty lot with markers for dock etc.. If you show him you really want to get that down that should impress him that you want to take the extra initiative.

I remember when I was first training way back in the day I tended to overthink it when I was backing and I was frustrated like you and once I quit doing that I got SOOOO much better . So when ya do back just relax and don't overthink it and you will do great.

Ways to Keep Expenses Down on the Road?

Ok, getting ready to get back into OTR after a long Hiatus So I know many things have changed , Prices on everything in truckstops went way up since I was out on the road before . SO what ways do you use to save money while out on the road . Myself I used to use a cooler, lunchmeats, PB&J and being ex military I had MRE's I kept on hand etc. Also Had Canned meats like Vienna Sausages etc.. Now I wasn't a 3 meal a day person but I did like to get at least one HOT meal a day because it helped me unwind from day on the road and definitely heard some quite "entertaining" conversations during my 1 hot a day .

I used to take 2 weeks worth of clothes out on road with me to try and NOT pay the damn laundromat fees at the truckstops but I found out that once i switched from running van to flatbed work it was pretty hard to keep them from getting really stinky IE getting soaked in rain tarping, mud, grease etc.. So I always ended up spending the damn money for laundromat fees.

Checking in!

Butta I wish you the very best of luck but with that many miles I hope You build yourself up a NICE and big escrow account. 435k is a lot and probably sooner than later the truck will be nickel and dimeing you to death . Those pumpkin trucks have been through a LOT

Still in school, looking at US Xpress as an option. US Xpress Drivers Experiences??

US Express is a really decent company I worked for them when I came off the road . I actually went through a school with a company they ended up buying out ( Victory Express) I have a close friend that works for them right now straight out of school doing their Proctor and Gamble run and he is paid damn well for it 175$ a day plus and he's home every day at 5

OTR Trucking is HARD WORK???

Gary i'm with ya on this one I too was in IT for 19 Years after I got out of a truck to take be with the kids while they were small . IT will suck the life out of ya. I had open heart surgery, and 3 days after my surgery the company I was contracted too said my position was being eliminated . ( that's some gratitude for making them MILLIONS of $) LOL . Now i'm getting ready to get back into driving as I did love it before. Have to start over from scratch but hey that's all good because I needed to catch up on all the latest rules and regulations. I'm all set for Roehl just waiting on one more paper I need then i'll be heading to appleton.

And Unholy I never considered it too hard even when I did drive before, HOWEVER there are times there is A Lot of work to do ,

And this job can get stressful as hell sometimes . IE donner in snow, Cabbage, grapevine etc.... these were one of the few things I didn't miss when I got out of my truck. Although they do provide some Amazing scenery.
