April 2018 Training blog at Roehl. Appleton WI

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY OR ASK QUESTIONS ON THIS PAGE !!!! I WANT MY POST TO LOOK LIKE A FLUID BLOG WITHOUT IT BEING BOGGED DOWN BY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS HERE AND THERE . SEND ME YOUR QUESTIONS BY PM AND I WILL TRY TO GATHER A FEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWER THEM ON ANOTHER UPDATE. Started training 10/09/2018

Day 1 10/09/2018 decided to make this little blog so that can pay it forward, I filled the app online, was accepted without hassle, recruiter contacted me to get the info verified and to make sure i had a CLP. ( i had gotten the CLP and DOT medical card way beforehand because i was thinking of getting the cdl by myself but then changed my mind, "CLP has to be acquired before attending the first day of school", "DOT medical can be gotten through Roehl who pays for the exam")

I came from another state by car ( Roehl will reimburse you for up to 35 dollars if you decided to stay a hotel on your way here) They WILL not reimburse for gas so gas expense is on you. no reimbursement for anything else.

I arrived on sunday, checked in a the good quality comfort inn hotel ( laundry, pool, jacuzzy, mini library, etc) and met my roommate. Hotel, Breakfast and lunch are paid by roehl, Breakfast comes from the hotel itself, there is a variety to pick from (sausage, egg, waffle, bacon etc and coffee, tea, apple/orange juice fruits and a few items more.

was told to be at the lobby by 7 am, Breakfast is served by around 6am so students can eat before going to class. so we woke up, got some quick breakfast, and went to the lobby

the first day you will be picked up by the shuttle, every day after that you will be responsible to getting to the Fox valley tech college YES, Roehl does not give you the training themselves, they subcontract the training to the Fox valley tech ( nice college that teaches a lot of trade classes).

Roehl Terminal is over 4 miles from the hotel and the Tech college is 1.5 miles away. so its a nice walk if you don't have a car but most of the time you should be able to hitch a ride with the other students who have their vehicle.

OK , lets get to the class then. Day 1 monday

got into the shuttle van, went to the Roehl terminal to do the physical test with the kinetic energy machine that you see on the orientation videos, turned in paperwork, ,checked more paperwork, trainer provided some intro the program and were given a CDL traning book to read.

then went to Lunch, a sign up sheet was provided with menu options ( mostly sub style sandwiches) , a soup or chips and a choice of cookies.

after that , more paperwork and drug test were performed by the people who took their drug test a while ago( if your drug test is older than 30 days, you will have to take it again on day 1 at the terminal ).

once all that was done, they gave us a paper log book and teached us how to fill it out, then they took us to the Fox college by shuttle and gave us a quick tour.

then it was time to get back to the hotel. Class was done by 5:30 PM

---------------------- DAY 2

woke up at 5:30 , got ready , went to the breakfast area and hitched a ride to the terminal ( i was told that most of the days we will be going to the tech , but will be going to the Roehl terminal every now and then and on Saturdays until 11:30 AM.

we did some more paperwork and a safety presentation, THE ROEHL 7 , good stuff. after that was done, they shuttle us to the tech college to get our paperwork done with the tech college.

once at the college we got settled and filled up sign up paperwork and they took a copy of all our documents. and gave us some paperwork and SOPs and about the pretrip and signing stuff for the training on the truck phase.

after that was done, it was time to go trucking , we went into 3:1 ratio groups and were shown how to start, upshift/downshift truck then we took turns and tried it ourselves .

after that, we went back to the classroom and talking about the stuff we did and how to improve on it until it was about to go back to the hotel.

end of day 2 .

Will continue this when i get the chance

In case you are wondering about the book its " tractor-trailer driver training manual " ISBN: 9781680080476 they recommend to read 2 chapters per night stayed.
