Sue in Wisconsin's Bio

I love to drive and being in the service as an army brat and moving constantly most of my life, I have a need to wander. I am just getting started and hope to retire from this position in about 15 to 20 years. I have my CDL permit and 2 year physical out of the way. Having driven large 5th wheel campers, motorhomes and towing up to 40 foot trailers, I am hoping that experience will give me an slight edge over the other newbies. I hope to see many of you on the road from time to time.

Starting a new career?

I have gotten my CDL certificate from my States DMV. I am at the end of my first week at the Swift academy. There are ample study materials. The class is taught from the perspective of knowing nothing. The highly regulated industry requires a DOT physical and hair and urine drug, prescription screening. We lost nearly 1/2 of our class during the section. As long as you study and listen to your instructors, anyone can pass. You need to take it seriously. It isn't a vacation. It is an opportunity and a career. Although you will travel and can see the most amazing scenery!

Go for it! Get your CDL and decide if its for you or not.

New CDL Female driver - Safety and concealed carry

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond. I wasn't concerned at first about my safety till I started reading around the internet and starting watching some youtube posts by others that claimed it was not safe for females "out there". I do appreciate everyone's comments. I wasn't aware that concealed carry/guns were not allowed. In all the materials Swift provided, that was not in anything.

Again THANKS and I hope to meet all of you soon out on the road.

Sue from Wisconsin.

New CDL Female driver - Safety and concealed carry

I will be starting my career as a CDL driver on the road in February. I have concerns about safety once I am on my own in March.

How many of you have a concealed carry weapon on you?

Is it something I need to worry about at truck stops?

I am looking for honest opinions.

Thanks!
