Dr. Anthony Lefteris, operating out of an Atlanta Petro station, issued about 6,600 invalid medical certifications, by clearing drivers without performing necessary testing. He was arrested December 1, 2016, and is no longer on the list of certified medical examiners.
Any driver that received their certification from Dr. Lefteris will be notified, by mail, by the FMCSA , and will need to re-certify. It applies mostly to drivers who call Georgia home, but drivers from all 48 states are affected.
"Duane DeBruyne, FMCSA spokesperson, says drivers can check their medical examiner’s certificate to determine if Lefteris issued their certification. “If affirmative, seek re-testing by a NRCME practitioner as soon as possible,” DeBruyne says."
Drivers will have 30 days to re-certify after receiving their letter.
