I brought a load into Walgreens D.C. In mount Vernon IL. Got here at 730 this morning for a 8:00 appt. it's now 4:05 and still being unloaded. They started right away when I got here. I went in after 4 hours and asked what was going on and she told me they have to sort and count everything as they unload it. I can't believe this is how they do it. I mean why not pull it all off and then count it instead of holding a driver all day doing it a pallet at a time. I'm a pretty easy going guy but this is rediculous.

I also experienced the same thing in Michigan. I was dumbfounded that I as a USPS manager always ensured trucks were unloaded asap. Yet some of these places I pull into are what I'm guessing using the force of the UNION maybe. (shrug)

Jodi, how is your log set while you're waiting? I assume your 14 hours is ticking, but if you put yourself in the sleeper you should have time to get out of there.

I know the thing about wheels turning and you earning, but waiting is also in the cards on this job.

How about sitting outside a gate while you wait ->24<- hours for your live load, and your manager can't hand this off to someone else? (Salt in the wound: I'm supposed to pick up the load and head home for a few days.)

I've also waited while Lumpers counted every jar of spaghetti sauce because my load shifted.

Finally made it out of there after 8 1/2 hours. I am well aware of the waiting game in this line of work but 8 1/2 hours is a bit excessive. Oh well made to pick up next load and still will get it delivered on time. And I got detention pay for the time there so could be worse. If it's not going to effect me tomorrow then it's not a big enough problem to get worked up over today. That's the way I look at things.

I LOVE loads like this. I do the 8 sleeper, roll out with a big chunk of clock...get paid detention for it... Drive a bit then park and nap for two hours. Voila! A bunch of new hours appear completing the 8/2 split. What would delay or screw it up would to then go take a ten hour break after the 8 hour. Cause in that case, one scenario would have a ten hour break....the other scenario would have an 18 hour break. In 8 hours we can roll 450-500 miles.

So think about the fact that doing it right could put you a whole load ahead of someone else.
