The best thing about being a rookie geezer is when you're talking to other truckers they don't automatically assume you're actually a rookie. The geezer part is pretty much taken at face value though. LOL!

Oh yeah, I started just last year at 55.

I will be less than 2 months from my 69th birthday this June when I graduate from a non company driving school. Never driven a big rig in my life. I have my CLP and my DOT physical card and I am ready to go forward. I look at driving a big rig as getting paid to see (tour) North America.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.
