We are born in America, by far the most spoiled and over privileged people on the face of this planet. No offence.

I don't think any of us can judge the situation of the people in the trailer unless we live in their shoes. None of us have even come close to the poverty and desperation they live through.

I thank God that I wasn't born into that and I wish them good things.

Now CBS and Fox are reporting there are cars on the WM surveillance videos picking up people from the trailer and supposedly 100 people were in there at one point.

Two guys from Guatemala said they crossed the border on foot and met up with the truck headed for Houston. Another guy said he was going to San Antonio knowing it is a sanctuary city.

So here's a thought. Charge the mayor with reckless endangerment and manslaughter. Eliminate the sanctuary city status that gives people a false hope they will be safe.

And using terms such as "the air conditioning unit was not working" is not giving an accurate description. Lousy journalism. Air conditioning would imply normally safe for people. This must have been a reefer..a refrigeration unit. What if it went the other way and they all froze to death?

Our press has gone to hell. Every news story is slanted. There is no unbiased journalism anymore. No one truly reports news, they give commentary and opinion.

I wonder if people would have seen it differently if there was some sort of porta pot on board and water with climate control. Had they gotten caught but all were well and given provisions would the ACLU come out and support the trucker with a "he was just trying to help.them get a better life".

Go check out the truckers in england who have to chase the illegals from hanging onto the truck and get fined even if they don't know they are there.

Ok let's not split hairs hear human smuggling is human trafficking, whether it's for prostitution or entering into the country. My point is this, no one wants to comment, why? Because it's a bunch of brown people? Where the !@&$! Is your humanity? Left it at the truck stop I guess. I can respect if the reason people don't comment is because "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Fine. Rainy, you've always been a know it all, opinions on everything even when you know nothing on the subject. (I was really ticked off when in 1 thread you bashed local driving, when you only knew from what you heard from other drivers, that it didn't work out for) if you were keeping off this subject till you knew more, kudos for you. If you're happy people are dead because "they shouldn't have been here in the 1st place" may god help you

Here I'll comment. They should have stayed home. They should have stayed home and to escape a poor economy should have applied to come to the US the right way.

I blame the government who encourages this mass migration by illegal aliens. Both on the Mexican side and the American side. Many die in the desert without us even knowing about them. We get ten that die in a trailer and we're supposed to feel badly. I feel badly that they were sold a bill of goods that coming to the US was without the possibility of harm.

Strong borders would have prevented this.

I don't usually comment on something that looks like it was set up as a trap just to see what people are going to say. That's the way this felt to me.

My intuition appears to have been correct. You are now on your high horse acting like we're a bunch of bigots because we decided to not take your bait!

The situation was tragic, and it doesn't have anything to do with anyone's skin color.

Whether we comment on something or not isn't, or certainly shouldn't be any of your concern. If you're gonna set a trap and then be upset that we didn't step in it, well I'll leave that conclusion for you to figure out.

Discretion is the better part of valor.

According to the Federal ICE website, you are incorrect.

"Human trafficking and human smuggling are distinct criminal activities, and the terms are not interchangeable. Human trafficking centers on exploitation and is generally defined as:

Sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age; or Recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage or slavery."

Your generalization of everyone on this website as not caring because they are brown is insulting to say the least.

It seems that brown people in their country ripped them off by offering illegal travel here. Other brown people set up smuggling routes and travel across across the border. And it was brown people who left them to die horribly in that trailer due to some unforeseen problem that caused them to run.

You social justice warrior fakers make me sick.

Shiva, first of all you started this topic hoping to stir trouble if not enough people rallied to your cause. I appreciate you feel strongly about this but baiting us so you can then condemn us isn't the best approach.

Say how you feel up front and start a conversation about it. That's fine. But keep in mind we're not a website for human rights debates or political debates. I'm not sure what you expected us to say.

Thousands of people die sadly around the world every day. Why aren't you speaking out about Africans or Middle Easterners? Are YOU racist? Where is your humanity toward them?

Take a better approach next time.

My family came over on boats 100 years ago and I would've too in order to make a better life for my family and I. I appreciate your sentiment but not your tactics.

I'm a white lady, yes, but I grew up in L.A. and diversity feels like home to me. In my thesis novel that I wrote for my masters degree my leading men are Mexican immigrants based on people I've known over the years. When I was a waitress I learned Spanish from the busboys because it was fun and I wanted to, and I cared. I generally don't mention these types of things because I don't do it to be politically correct or socially just or because I care what anyone thinks. Not realizing it was some bizarre bait for controversy, I simply didn't respond because the idea of cooking in a truck haunted me for much of yesterday, and I didn't know what to say. Plus, it did feel like an odd post. How sad and ridiculous for you to jump to that conclusion.

Well since you've already decided what I was going to say I may as well say it.

They shouldn't have been here in the first place.

Happy now?
