Congratulations on a job well done. What terminal are you going to be assigned? And how will training work.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I'll be working out of the Tulsa terminal. I'm suppose to report Monday after I go to the DMV and pick up my license. So I'll know more about the continuing training program then. What I have been told so far is 4-6 weeks with a trainer, the length is dependant on when the trainer thinks you are ready to be a safe driver on your own. Then you have to do a driving test for the your DM. After that you are in your own truck for 6K miles. Once you have completed the 6k you have finished the squire program and are considered a knight.

I'll update this information as I learn more and go along.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
