Does Swift pay more for NY trips? Was given a load to pick up from Swift Terminal in Syracuse NY for T-Call at Swift Terminal in Columbus OH. Mind you I am supposed to bobtail all the way to NY from Franklin, OH.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Serah, I'm not a Swiftee but I doubt you're getting paid extra for that one. Some companies pay a little extra for trips into New York City, but Syracuse is like a walk in the park compared to the boroughs. That's a good load, dont be afraid of it. Upstate New York is beautiful, and the people are real friendly.

Thx OS. What is the road like?

Serah, Swiftie here. Nope, no extra pay. Roads this time of year aren't bad. IIRC, the worst you'll see is western PA and were at the tail end of construction season so expect random lane closures most of the way, including OH.

Those roads are fine. No serious mountain driving, in fact it is mostly flat. You shouldn't have any problems.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Serah, on the Swift Qualcomm there's a message where you can ask what you're getting paid for a run. I can't look it up now, but read down the list. (If you're at a loss I'll get it tomorrow afternoon.)

You'll get back the gross pay for any given trip.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

I am through the Syracuse Terminal a couple times a week. The roads are fine. There is some construction on I90, but the traffic flows pretty well. If you need to shut down, do it at the terminal, or the TA's in Pembroke, or Waterloo. The service plazas are way too expensive, and not much parking.

I love driving in upstate NY. Have fun, it's beautiful up there and I certainly understand why Brett calls that neck of the woods, home.
