My recruiter became a night dispatcher and every now and then when I have to call at night I get her on the phone. Tonight, after some chit chat, she comments that I'm a runner and I'm getting the miles. I'm currently getting unloaded from a 640 mile load and I'm preplanned for a 2000 mile run. My FM knows I'm out here to drive. I currently stay out about 6 weeks at a time then go home for 6 days. This way I am maximizing my money. Right now we get paid every 2 weeks, in January we go back to weekly pay. I'll reevaluate my home time plans once I get used to that.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

There are some brownie points for "bumping into" someone who already knows you. But best of all, your recruiter/DM and you will now make a really good team.

Good for you Big Scott. Treat everyone with respect and dignity,...yah never know where and how an individual may be in a position to help you.

Thanks. I always say please and thank you. I believe my attitude gets me better treatment everywhere. I was always taught to treat people the way you would want to be treated. Growing up in the service industry didn't hurt either.

It's amazing how elementary of a saying that is, yet people still don't put it into practice. Being nice and doing the right thing always goes a long way.
