For those of you who work for swift. What are exactly the paperwork we have to do at orientation ? I’m going to get my class A permit before I go. I have a medical card. Do I have to take another dot physical ? Will I skip a week once I get my permit ahead of time ? It’s right around the corner and I’m trying to get prepared.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

In my situation at Phoenix we had to come with a physical and permit before we could start. The other stuff you will need is your SS Card, current drivers license, and birth certificate. Only other paperwork you have to do at the academy is signing the contract for debt payoff.

You also need proof of residence now. Utility bill, car registration, etc. Go on DMVs website and you should be able to find the list of acceptable documents.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Wow I didn’t know that. Well I still live with my parents ( 23yr old) but all I have is a car payment. Can I just bring that ? Or do I have to bring the other stuff with it as well ?

I would check with your DMV. I don't have the list on the truck anymore.

I did my orientation at the beginning of October (7 weeks ago) , at the Syracuse Terminal. The only things they actually asked for were my, SSC, CDL, and Medical. They glanced at my birth cert. Maybe they didn't get the memo.

As far as I remember residency is just for getting your license and permit, but it is a good note to have your residency stuff in order for the permit. It was harder for me due to New Mexico giving licenses to illegal aliens. So my dad had to put my name on the utilities.
