I'm quite familiar with that disease process but your ability to obtain a CDL rests entirely in the hands of a DOT Certified Medical Examiner and a Cardiologist.
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
- Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
- Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
I have hcm. Obstructive. Had open heart surgery. Ive read fmcsa material until i was blue. Sent an email after one month got an email back. Saying its up to your cardiologist and dot examiner. I had one walk in clinic say i was disqualified due to hcm. Ive had 5 others say bring a note from your cardiologist and your good. Google hcm center of excellence. Not just any cardiologist knows about hcm. Visit for your big check ups and do what they say you can do. Best wishes

Does any one have information on this heart condition and getting a DOT card. I have this condition I don't show symptoms and not limited in things I can do my blood pressure is good and no other medical issues. Got excepted to a company sponsored cdl program but when I went to my DOT exam at concentra they gave paper work to bring to a cardiologist cuz they heard a heart murmur. If anyone is fimililar with HCM can I get a CDL.. Thank you
