Remembering downshifts in the high range is pretty easy. Just quickly add the two numbers together to give you the correct gear. Example 45 mph. 4 + 5 = 9. You should downshift to 9th.
45 mph = 9th 35 mph = 8th 25 mph = 7th 15 mph = 6th
This is great if you miss a shift and aren't sure what gear you should now put it in. You're at 25 mph? 2 + 5 = 7. Rev the engine and clutch into 7th.
Not every truck shifts the same, but the ProStar I have been training in seems to like about 1500 rpm for the downshifts....use the quick speedometer formula that Planb gave you above.....45mph 4+5=9th, 35mph 3+5=8th, etc...shift to neutral, rev to 1500, shift to gear.
Make sure you are slowing down enough before you try to downshift. You should be below 1200 rpm.....
Operating While Intoxicated
Hey Austin...thought I’d chime in on this one. A lot of new drives don’t realize the amount of rev you need in the engine to synchronize the gears. That was my problem...sometimes still is. The formulas listed above are correct in terms of gears/speed. Also, remember shifting needs some speed to it so you don’t loose RPMs...don’t worry... you’ll get better at it. Good luck
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
