Well today was a big step for me. I have been working at the same non driving job for Ten Years. I have also been driving a school bus since August. Today, I called to verify with my Recruiter that everything was set for me In Feb for Orientation at Maverick. They also made me feel more at ease telling me all I would need far as the passport / passport card goes is a picture of the receipt that I filed for it and I do not even have to expedite it. I needed to be reassured prior to giving notice. After that I went to tell my manager in person at the Bus company and she was really busy between the phone and about 5 people waiting in line to talk to her. This was the second time I tried to tell her and that happened so I figured there may never be a good time to tell her and walked away. A few minutes later I decided to text herby notice and she said "OK" then informed me that school would be closed tomorrow due to the weather. Im not even sure if she even read the text but I did tell her.

Then I called the Human resources dept at the job I have been with for a decade and asked how they deal with unused vacation pay if an employee gives notice. I was happy to hear they simply pay it out. Then I asked specifically who I should give my notice to and what form would they prefer. She told me they prefer it in writing and I should give a copy of it to my supervisor and a second copy to them. I printed out that letter a few hours ago and will be turning them in to the supervisor when I leave in the am and have her send the copy to HR as well through interoffice mail.

This was a huge step for me. I actually feel relieved to know my days with the bus company are numbered. I will miss the other job but the road is calling me and paying far more money then I will ever make at the job I have had the past ten years. I would have done this years ago had it not been for a free tuition benefit for my daughter to get a degree. My emotions are going nuts.

Kevin, Thanks for doing it the correct way. I have my notice last week in writing. If I complete the two weeks I will receive a 500 dollar bonus. I start back at Roehl on 1/22.

Good luck in the future.

I did not even know how to do it right. I simply called HR to find out how they wanted it done. I knew I did not want to burn bridges. I like the people and company. Im basically leaving because my future is much more rewarding as a driver than working for them.
