Well, after some research, (probably too much) and from Parrothead66's input here, I decided that McElroy was the best choice for me and my family. I start orientation on the 15th in Ennis, Texas and I will try to provide updates on orientation and training as I go, if anyone is interested. I'm excited and ready to get rolling figuratively and literally. This forum has been great for information throughout CDL school and while I contemplated my career choices. I appreciate the input.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

All the best to you going forward. I too look forward to reading your progress. I don’t leave until March. Glad you were able to narrow the search to a company that suits not only your needs but those of your family also. I thought I had done the same but have one company to sort out. Again, best wishes, God bless & stay safe.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Hey sounds great!

We'd love for you to document everything in our CDL Training Diaries section. That's a huge help for people preparing to go on the road themselves and it's super interesting to follow along with people.

Best of luck!
