Venting is fine. Better not to let it stay inside until you have a meltdown behind the wheel, piloting 80,000 lbs.

About you getting into an auto, versus a manual, here's something you may not have thought about: suppose that auto transmission goes into the shop for ten days at a dealership. Company gives you two options- sit there on it, or we have a loaner truck you can use. BTW, it's a ten speed manual. Which would you choose? Something big picture to mull over.

Good point Packrat and that is something that I never thought about, I just wanted to get this portion over with so bad so that I can actually get on to the real learning on the road and become that driver I know I can be. It is with a very happy heart today that I report that I passed my second drive and I don't know how many points I had but I DON'T CARE!! I am a CDL driver now and that is all that matters!! So now I wait until Friday to go to CFI to begin my orientation until I take my week off to go home and see my wife and then go out with my trainer. I want to thank everyone that has encouraged me along the way and listen to my rants just to be able to blow off some steam. This site has been a great resource for me and very happy that I have found it. Let the journey continue!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

So tomorrow is my last day of orientation and then I should be heading home for at least 7 days before I head out with a trainer/finisher. As long as one is available I will go out with one for 7500 miles, head back to Joplin and do my upgrade test and get my own truck and start my Solo career. My plans are to get hazmat and pass card to be able to run more loads and also haul Canada. I want to do as many miles as I possibly can and do it safely and learn all I can learn to be a great asset to my company and a great driver. I have much to learn in this business and know that I do not have all the answers to all the questions. But the one thing of many that I like about CFI at this point is that they are here to help me to do all the things that I want to do and support me to make them happen. I believe that when they tell us when we as drivers are successful then the company is successful and so on. I have talked to many drivers that have told me that they love the respect the company shows them and the things they put in place to help them to be successful drivers so they can provide for themselves and their families. I know that not everything will always be roses and there will be some challenging days but being persistent and working hard will just help me improve. I am excited to be starting this next chapter in my career and look forward to the future.
