Just finished reviewing the TSA website. I went ahead and started the application process and while doing so, there was an option for CDL permit holders. Would make sense to state this on the home page, but hey, I am scheduled to go to the Parma, OH branch tomorrow. Speaking of Parma, if you ever drive through Parma you will notice the pink flamingos flocking in front of businesses and residents homes alike. Don;t worry, they don't startle easily and will not fly in front of the truck.
Just to reiterate these points.
I just showed a birth certificate with an official seal and a valid Illinois Drivers Lisence and I was good to go. Name on the DL and BC must match identically.

That is interesting. My CDL lists my middle initial but my birth certificate lists my full name. I applied for a passport and used my CDL AND Birth certificate as ID and put on the application for the passport my middle initial so it would match my CDL. Then when I got my TWIC only required the passport for ID (CDL was optional) the lady was going to put my full name on my twic application until I pointed out the middle initial was optional and both my passport and CDL only listed the initial. Now all my ID has only middle initial except my birth certificate.

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
In Louisiana, I took all my tests before getting my permit. I didn't have the money at the time for my background check, but went in later for the background. Once that came back, I went to the DMV , and added the hazmat to my license.

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
Don, Without reading all the other replies, this is my experience. In NC, you need the TSA background done before taking the hazmat endorsement. That takes about 30 days. Some states will let you get it with your permit. You can add it any time. CFI requires one to have it within 120 days of your hire date. That's pleanty of time. I got my fingerprints for the TSA background check done before leaving for training and added the endorsement when I went home to get my liscence.

Big Scott, nice to hear from you. I have an appointment today in Parma to get my fingerprints done. BTW, I am suppose to leave 4/25, so I have called my recruiter the past two days to get transportation confirmation for Greyhound and other things. She has not return either phone call, so I'll try again today. I may have to contact the main recruiting number. Stay safe out there.
