I am about 60 miles west of Chicago.

I was in Round Lake Park, last Thursday

Thats about an hour from me...My understanding is MTL also does a lot with US Gypsum out of Waukeegan too. I am looking forward to getting in early on the Midwest build-up for MTL.

I should be making my way north this week or so I was told. I should have a trainee next week which means he should finish as you are ready for one. I'm looking forward to running up there.

Hi Parrothead. During the training for new CDL graduates, is it set up as a team, or is the trainer in the seat next to you? I would kinda think it would be harder to run a team, when y'all are home every weekend, but it is definitely possible.

McElroy is on my short list of companies i want to drive for.

Welcome to the MTL family, if you chose them. I've been with them a year and a few months now. To answer your trainer question, he is there as a mentor. If all goes well, you will spend a majority of your time on the left side of the truck. He will act a your navigator and your reference guide for load securement. As you progress, and he feels confident in your skills, it should be as if he isn't even there.

As he said

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Greeting all, new to the site here. Have read through the entire post here. Lots of good info. Will be finishing up CDL school next week but due to the holidays cannot test till 5 January. Have an app in with McElroy, Kasey is the recruiter I have been talking with. Today we had a McElroy recruiter stop by, lots of benefits that make me want to take a closer look with them. The home weekends, being able to park at Lowes, $250/month tuition reimbursement, 46 cents/mile starting out, free driver healthcare, 65% pre tarped loads! Have an invite for orientation with Maverick but am going to have a hard time deciding as I really like what I have read here and heard by talking with the recruiters. Thanks to everyone for posting your experience about McElroy.

Thanks for the reply Reformed Squid. I'll keep 5 Jan in mind as I test for my CDL! I do have a few questions that I thought of after talking with the McElroy recruiter and will post them later today. Running short on time this morning as I have an hour drive each way to school. Thanks again and stay safe out there.

Hey there everyone. New to the group here and just wanted to try and confirm a few things before my orientation with McElroy. I was told .42 cpm beginning pay. 450 a week during training. Payed health care . And home every weekend. Can someone confirm that that is true ? I've dealt with a few recruiters and have found them to be not so reliable when I check on facts LOL. McElroy seems to have an answer for every question and doesn't mind talking as long as you'd like. Made me feel better about choosing them. I just feel more comfortable finding out from real employees with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
