A major winter storm has hit a number of states leaving a thick layer of ice on everything! What a mess to deal with!
It’s not just the guys that get propositioned on the road!
With 10 years of truck driving under my belt, I’ve spent a lot of hours in the driver’s seat. Most of my driving time was at night, though. It was easier on a woman to drive at that time of the day. The guys couldn’t ogle you as they could during the daytime. You’d be amazed at some of the sights you’ll see sittin’ way up there above most everybody else on the highway.
Well, as I said yesterday, my confidence continues to build each and every time I hop into that driver’s seat. The day started off a bit shaky as I missed a couple of gears and was in a new truck I haven’t driven before. But things got better after that!
You never know when something crazy is going to happen when you’re cruisin down the road. But when something does go wrong, the proper training and understanding of how to handle a big rig will keep you safe and ready to run another day. This story was about one of those days.
For those of you following along in my blog, there is only one way to describe the difference from yesterday to today. “Night and day.” Wow! It’s really fun to watch myself improve so quickly! Today I’ll get to drive with the trailer hooked up for the first time!
Now things are starting to get interesting. My entire class passed the CDL-A exams on our first try, so today we got to drive the trucks! I went in this morning expecting to get out to the trucks right away, but unfortunately we had to wait a while as the class before us was finishing up some testing.

This is month two of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with their talk of how they are now truck drivers. PLEEEASE! You know nothing after 2 weeks. You abuse me by grinding my gears and not keeping me clean. I am not thrilled at all running around in a parking lot all day.

I’ve learned to always expect the unexpected no matter how stupid it might seem. The only thing I don’t do is to watch for falling airplanes.

Full of dead semi’s and buses in a back lot, all are silent and aging and rusting in their final resting place. Oh, the stories they could tell us. The buses are on one side and the semi’s are on another. They have been dumped for newer models. Their owners quickly forgot how dependable they were with all the miles and years they had together.

I passed my training period and I’ve been assigned a cabover. This does not thrill me. I really wanted one of the newer trucks, but I know I have to start somewhere. Does this mean I’m a Professional Driver? I sure don’t feel like one, and I don’t think the motoring public is ready for [...]
Hello once again everyone. Well, since the title of this post gives it away, I’ll start off by saying I took my CDL written exams today so I could obtain my CDL permit. I passed! In order to get my permit, I had to pass three sections; General Knowlege, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles. I decided to take it a couple steps further and also took the Doubles / Triples certification exams as well as the exam for Tankers. I got 100% on every single exam! Unreal!

Me, being an ol’ time trucker, decided I would go take a look at some of the CDL Driving Schools in my area. Here’s a little rundown on what I found – everything from the crooked and filthy, to the big and the beautiful!

Life can be a lot of fun on the road. You get to see so many places and do so many things that sometimes it’s great to do things that will help you remember and appreciate it all!

‘Leadfoot Jessie’ and his partner for life ‘One Toothed Bandit’ had been driving over the road for damn near 20 years together. Both had been in, and seen, and survived, the worst that life could throw at a person and two people in love. On the night of their 27th year, ‘Leadfoot Jessie’ received word about an urgent load that was available to someone headed west. The load paid more than normal and both ‘Leadfoot’ and ‘One Tooth’ could not understand why another trucker with a faster rig hadn’t snapped up the load. Now being ones who had learned never to look a gift horse in the mouth, they signed the paperwork and backed under the load.
