Trailer Of Breakfast Cereal–Getting It To You

When you arrive at the shipper in Omaha, you shut off your truck at the guard shack and give your pickup number for your assigned load. Next you sign a carboned paper that has your name, truck number, trailer number … Continue reading

What’s a Desert Dude Doing Driving in a Blizzard?

Let me start out by saying that I live in the desert. Yes, 120 degrees summer days desert. Blowing sand is common when it’s windy. We do have days when main roads are closed due to blowing sand – but not snow! Oh man, here comes a blizzard! Continue reading

Life On The Road For Truck Drivers Is So Different From Anything You’ve Ever Known

I am amazed at how different the life of a truck driver is compared to “other” people. We eat differently, sleep differently, see the road differently, and live in what seems like a parallel dimension. Continue reading

My Best Trip in a Big Truck Yet!

Wow, so my most recent trip was by far the best trip I’ve had to date. We left California late at night and were “East Bound and Down” to Pennsylvania. Remember the plastic bottles we brought to California on my last trip? Well, now those same bottles were filled with delicious California Orange Juice. Our mission? Bring the Orange Juice to the good people of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Continue reading

Truck Driving and Mother Nature’s Fury

Last week we had a trip from Illinois out to California. I did get the first taste of what mother nature can do to a big rig. We had a light load of plastic bottles and only had about 14,000 pounds “in the box” for this trip. Well, I soon found out that a light load plus high winds equals a nasty situation! Recruiters, Companies, and Schools – Choosing The Right Path Into Your Trucking Career

Its funny how much getting started in trucking is so similar to getting started in the military. It takes much thought and soul searching for both, it takes constant nights worrying about if you’re making the right choice, and the most common theme they both share is that you have to wade through the BS that the recruiters try and sell you.
