Unemployment Insurance Tax? Ya Must Need a Doctor’s Degree

What on earth is unemployement tax insurance, and where the hell does it all go during times of low unemployement? Nobody ever knows what the government does with all our money.

Not much. You? Trucking Is as Trucking Does.

209, I counted. That’s how many applications I have filled out for trucking companies. Of those only 4 trucking companies have even made an attempt to send me some type of response. 32 of these Apps. will exceed the 90 day limit in 2 days, so to keep them fresh I will have to send those trucking companies another reminder about me. It seems so much easier in this day of E-mail and fax etc.etc.etc.

Satin sheets to LIE on. Satin pillows to cry on.

With the inception of a new president into one of the toughest political and economic climate in our nation’s history, change has been promised to Americans. But is it the right type of change, or is our prosperity being undermined by bad policy? There’s a lot to consider.

Just an ol’ Trucker Looking at Driving Schools

Me, being an ol’ time trucker, decided I would go take a look at some of the CDL Driving Schools in my area. Here’s a little rundown on what I found – everything from the crooked and filthy, to the big and the beautiful!

Leadfoot Jessie and One Toothed Bandit

‘Leadfoot Jessie’ and his partner for life ‘One Toothed Bandit’ had been driving over the road for damn near 20 years together. Both had been in, and seen, and survived, the worst that life could throw at a person and two people in love. On the night of their 27th year, ‘Leadfoot Jessie’ received word about an urgent load that was available to someone headed west. The load paid more than normal and both ‘Leadfoot’ and ‘One Tooth’ could not understand why another trucker with a faster rig hadn’t snapped up the load. Now being ones who had learned never to look a gift horse in the mouth, they signed the paperwork and backed under the load.

Economic Hard Times and The Politics of Change

I’ve have been unemployed before so it’s not like a new thing to me. The trouble is, before, there were always jobs to go to. It was just a matter of a time, a few days, maybe a week, some times the same day I’d be behind the wheel with another company. Today…well, today, it would seem, things are a bit different. I have been through 5 recessions…not depressions. There is a difference between recessions and depressions….

Trucker’s CB Radios: Fire on the Wire!!!

Yep, with that bad boy radio, which cost as much as a used BMW, I could talk to the other side of the world if the skip was right. If the skip wasn’t running right I could at least give the Communist Operators in Cuba the devil…with a bit of a kicker driving a foot warmer.

To Fuel or Not To Fuel? It is to Question.

To Fuel or Not to Fuel…That is the question. Most truck stops will give you a free shower with the purchase of fuel. Some places require that you get 50 gals, some it’s more or less. Most times those free showers you can use at any of the same type of truck stops down the [...]

The Magical, Mystical “Hot Load”.

My Boss, one time, told me that what I was about to haul into town was a “Hot Load”. He told me, “Don’t be screwin’ ’round now…that load should’ve done left hours ago,” and with a hardy, “Hurry up driver,” I began my epic adventure with the “Hot Load”. As I left the terminal, I noticed [...]

Keep Entertained While You’re Out There On The Road

Man alive. If you can’t entertain yourself with all the various gadgets and gizzmoes out there, you must already be bored to death. There’s satellite radio, satellite TV, books on tape and CD, Laptop computers, mp3′s, video cameras, video games, Internet, uploads, downloads, overloads, and under-loads. My poor ol’ head is boggled at the amount of stuff [...]

What’s a “Greasy Spoon”?

What is a “Greasy Spoon”? There is nothin worse to a Trucker, after many long miles and hours behind the wheel, than to pull into a place where the food is terrible. The Waitress sets a plate of something in front of you that makes you think of them two squashed animals you just passed [...]

PawPaws Don’t Need Medals

I tell this story to you as it was told to me by my Grand-dad. Decembers in Hawaii are much like Spring days in Florida. Warm ocean breezes. Swaying palm trees. Tourist roasting in the hot sun. Lazy easy going times. This December Sunday started off the same as every other Sunday in the Island state. [...]

Thank God it wasn’t me.

A cold December morning. Christmas card perfect. Dad and mom with two young boys on their way to visit Grandma an Grandpa. Mom has the map out, giving directions to dad as he navigates the family car toward a Christmas Day meal with all the fixin’s. 72,000 pound rig with a driver at the wheel [...]

Getting to know me…

I try to lead a simple life, I’m not after riches untold or fame, I prefer to love, live, and be free. There is always someone out there that wants to control those things that I hold dear. For instance … I once had a boss that couldn’t stand the fact that I was happy in my life. He never wanted to get to know me or understand where I stood. He wanted me to be like the rest of his drivers. These drivers were always griping about their wives and how the law was against everyone and how they hated to work, on an on and on. It was very nerve-wracking for some one of a happy nature to be around people who wanted to lead a depressed life. So I tended to ignore those types as much as possible. Be as that may, there were times when I would have to work in close quarters with said ‘want to be depressed people’, and finally one day…..
