Whether or not a trucking company or bus company will do the necessary maintenance to the vehicle is one good way to determine if a company is right for you when searching for a bus or truck driving job. But the driver also needs to understand their equipment, how it functions, and how to inspect it.

Driving a bus full of children is never an easy task, but add a terrible Iowa snow storm to the mix and you’ve really got your hands full!

My boss and I and another woman driver were at the Conway, Arkansas bus factory picking up two new buses that we would deliver to our Ames, Iowa office before the buses would be delivered to the Iowa school districts that ordered them. Unfortunately, the busses were never going to make it to their destination.

This is my story that was published in the 1986-87 Winter issue of Bus World. My employer gave me pictures to send in and they were put with my article. It was given the title “Day Shift” by Bus World.
