CDL Training Week Two – Finding Out Which Of Us Will Make It Through
Ah, week two. The magical week that separates the truck drivers from the…well… not truck drivers? This is the week that we actually get out of the desk and behind the wheel. The week where you probably will be doing all the basics. If you’re like me, you’re probably scared to death, and if you’re not, then your nerves are made of barb wire and I envy you. I was completely horrified of down shifting for some reason, so when it came time to take a tight curve, I kind of tensed up and almost hit a guard rail. So here’s a little advice, calm down. It really comes natural when you get the hang of it. You’re going to probably start off slow. Snail slow. Continue reading
End Of My First Week of CDL School, Start of My First Blog
Well I finally did it! After a whole year of thinking about it, I decided it was time for me to dive head-first into the exciting, rewarding career of over-the-road truck driving. So I grabbed my fingerless work gloves, denim jacket and “Smokey and the Bandit” DVD and realized that I had absolutely no idea how to get into the industry…. Continue reading

CDL Training – Hopefully Taking The CDL Test This Week
Last week was pretty busy for me. But things are starting to get a bit repetitive at truck driving school. We’re mostly alternating all day between backing up in the yard and driving truck out on the road. My road skills are becoming quite refined and I’m starting to feel very comfortable driving trucks now. I know I still have a ton to learn and I’m looking forward to getting on with a trucking company and going out on the road with a trainer. I’m sure I’ll be overwhelmed once I’m out there. Continue reading

CDL Training – Getting Ready for Test Day
Out in the yard, I did very well today. My 45 degree backing skills are getting more refined each time I do it and I’m feeling very confident about the yard all together. I did fail once today though. On my measured right turn, I just barely clipped the cone. I just touched the corner of it and it wiggled a little bit. But that’s enough for a fail. To be honest, I was really pushing my luck. I was trying a new technique and ….. Continue reading
