Randy’s Truck Driving School - Day 7
Well, it’s been one week since Randy arrived in Utah, and what a week it’s been. While it went by fast for him, it felt more like a month to me.
Helping Those Who Are Considering A Career In The Truck Driving Industry
Well, it’s been one week since Randy arrived in Utah, and what a week it’s been. While it went by fast for him, it felt more like a month to me.
Randy was all excited and relieved to tell me that, early in the day, he passed his backing test on the first try. He was nervous, so he did lose 2 points (could miss 12 and pass). He’s been backing trailers (on and off over the years) since he was 16, but said that being trained in proper techniques has increased his confidence. He said the thing he misses most about home is “me making dinner”. What??? Shouldn’t he have just said “me”? The thing I miss most, at least right now, is just being able to sleep.
Oh, I can’t believe my husband’s been gone less than a week, it feels like a month! Usually time goes by so quickly but now it’s just dragging, even though I’ve been ridiculously busy. His CDL training has been fast-paced and tough.
Almost a week has gone by now and things are rolling along. Some people are doing well, others not so much, and the time apart is not getting any easier.
The fast pace of CDL training at truck driving school continues as students continue to drop out of the program due to health and background issues.
The pace of CDL training has started out very fast and it’s been a tough adjustment in lifestyle for both my husband and myself.
Well, I spoke to Randy for nearly an hour last night about his first full day at truck driving school, and it was over a 12-hour marathon starting at 7 am. Ha, he thinks I’m a genius now for all the research I’ve done!
Well it’s Sunday and I have just completed my first week of truck driving school. This is my first and only day off for this week! What a week it has been!
So, finally I got into the school on 4/20 and started the classroom phase. My school required that we have already gotten the CDL permit and all five of the required endorsements (combination vehicle, doubles/triples, air brakes, tanker, and hazardous materials). That said, the school did provide two days of review over the general knowledge [...]
Well I finally did it! After a whole year of thinking about it, I decided it was time for me to dive head-first into the exciting, rewarding career of over-the-road truck driving. So I grabbed my fingerless work gloves, denim jacket and “Smokey and the Bandit” DVD and realized that I had absolutely no idea how to get into the industry….
The end of week one of our CDL training has us doing a variety of different things, including classroom study, videos, backing up on the truck range, and doing pre-trip inspections.
Days two and three of our trucking school meant more studying, taking our DOT physical, and also taking the written test for our CDL permit. This school is really fast paced!
Ok, so the first day wasn’t that great. I mean it is what it is. You do alot in the 15 day course. Its very fast paced.
The rooms they put you in are small, but clean. The second week you go to the hotel. The tv room is nice and they do have a pool [...]
Hello once again everyone. Well, since the title of this post gives it away, I’ll start off by saying I took my CDL written exams today so I could obtain my CDL permit. I passed! In order to get my permit, I had to pass three sections; General Knowlege, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles. I decided to take it a couple steps further and also took the Doubles / Triples certification exams as well as the exam for Tankers. I got 100% on every single exam! Unreal!
Another day of truck driving school down, one day closer to getting into the truck! Today was a fun, but challenging day. The information keeps building and building and our instructor is really pushing us to remember everything. After all, our CDL permit test is this Friday. Only two days away! While it’s a bit stressful trying to learn so much information in such a short period of time, I feel it’s well within my abilities. And the things I’m learning are things I’m truly interested in, so it makes things much more bearable.
