Finally, the time to take the road test arrived. We would go, in small groups, to the testing facility in Hartselle, Alabama over the next five days. I would test on the second day, and Alan would test on the fourth. Everyone was nervous, and most of us failed the first attempt.

I have to admit there have been times, during the first 3 weeks of this experience, where I began to feel that the entire trucking industry might be orchestrated by a bunch of mad scientists conducting some kind of evil psychological experiment. And we (the students, drivers and their families) are their human guinea pigs.

Out in the yard, I did very well today. My 45 degree backing skills are getting more refined each time I do it and I’m feeling very confident about the yard all together. Only a couple more weeks left and I’ll be done with CDL training. Can you believe it?? I sure can’t! But I’m feeling ready. Our tentative date for the Secretary of State to come test us is February 17th, so it’s going to come up quick!
