Heh, boy oh boy do you sound just like me when I was learning how to shift. Don't even sweat it man. The amount of improvement you'll see from yourself in a very short period of time will be incredable. Just keep with it, listen to your instructors, and you'll have it down in no time.

Not to worry, Adrian. The first day on the yard is the hardest. Each day will be just a little easier. And in no time. you'll be a full fledged, certified, bonafied, truck driving fool. When I was an instructor, I had my students on the freeway within the first hour of their first day of behind the wheel training,(after a brief 30 minute how to shift course) and the confidence that they got made the rest of the skills/yard/pre-trip etc a piece of cake. Maintain your "can do" attitude and you will do just fine. FFfF

Adrian,
Welcome to truckingtruth and letting us read all about your adventures. Everyone goes thru the same or very close to the same "learning how to drive a truck" but each person brings a different viewpoint.

Yes, straight line backing is not as easy as you think it should be. Most turn the wheel to much and then the trailer gets way off the target. You'll catch on. Then someday in the future to get to your shipper/reciever you will find you will have to BACK UP for 1 block and back around a corner to get to the dock! I was just thrilled to pieces when that happened to me!

Be sure and read our pre-trip stories we have up. It may help you out. Its not easy. Its a hard one for students and even harder for others. Great post.
