Hmm...I think that most of the Transmitter/ReceiverS Used by Wrecker Drivers and Ambulance, Fire department, Police,ETC. ETC. Are networked to only a certain Frequency and maybe even a different ""Modulation"" than CBs. They are still Broadcasting Radio Waves but they have to be Registered and Licenced by the FCC.

With that said..If YOU are able to interrupt a Licensed and Registered signal with any signal YOU produce, YOU are breakin' certain rules and regulations set up by the FCC. They are very serious about it. If YOU interrupt a signal and it causes damage death or disaster...YOU go to jail...do not pass GO...go straight to jail.

If your mobile and transmitting ... it's hard to track you down. But if you have screwed something up or cost a life they will get you.

If you need more info ...just ask.
Be forewarned ... I can not and will not TELL you how to achieve the results I have been able to achieve.
I can, however, answer the correct question.

Nice post Pappy! I got myself into the Ham Radio world about 10 years ago. I'm not too active on it anymore, but it's been fun. I have very little experience with CB, so it'll be interesting making the transition!

4100 Watts?!? Holy smokes! You can fry an egg on the antennae in about 5 seconds running that kind of power! Sheesh!

If you're interested in getting your Ham Radio license, shoot me an email. I'd be more than happy to help. You don't need Morse Code anymore to get a license and it sounds like you already know enough to pass the written test with ease! In fact, it sounds like you have a better understanding of radios than MOST Ham Radio Operators...myself included!

Now that is one outstanding read! LOL! I never had a real big radio - but the CB is one of the best tools a trucker will ever have. It was the best tool at one time, but a GPS and a cell phone are the most important tools now. But there will always be information you can get on the CB that you just will not get anywhere else - especially up to the second bear reports, traffic and weather reports, weigh station reports, and special instructions on directions in and out of places.

One of my favorite quotes of all time:

"Usually they are full of threats so they are chicken shit and let their alligator mouth overload their canary ass."

I was laughin my ass off at that one!

Great job!

Good article Pappy. About the only time I see a CB is when the tow trucks use 'em. However, those seem to work much farther than the ones I see you guys write about, or am I mistaken?
