I really want to thank you for your posts. I've been considering becoming a truck driver for a number of the same reasons you mentioned Randy did, plus I've always enjoyed travel, and a variety, but I have children, I'm engaged etc... I've been scanning sites looking to get a teal idea of what the training is like, what the job is like, how it affects family members emotionally etc and your posts have provided insite into that. I truly appreciate you being willing to share your feelings, emotional ups and downs etc. I still haven't made up my mind, but your posts have given me alot to think about. THANK YOU!

Where is the rest of the story? I really enjoyed all of it, I read every word and could really feel their love and their pain. Did Randy not go back to CRE? Or did he take the auto hauling job? I hope someone knows the answer. Maybe Randy got out of trucking. What ever the case I wish them both the best............

Hi - I just found your post's about your husband's truck driving job and I feel like you just told my story. My husband started driving a truck OTR last year (March 09) after getting laid off from his job (I was laid off too.) He thought this was a good solution. When he was training I didn't see him for more than two months. He was with the company a year in June (actually driving on his own) and he has now started training other drivers. I am miserable because since he's been training I talk to him maybe once every couple days. We werent fighting before but now we are. And he too spent an incredible amount of money his first year on stuff for his truck. We thought we'd be able to write it off but the total wasn't more than our standard deduction and I didn't know how else to accomplish this - anyway - im now wondering if this job was the best idea. We've only been married 5 years and it has definately taken a toll on our relationship. He;s saying things like he has to go back to work and train so he can bring home big paychecks for me (not us) and when he does come home for home time he is gone most of the time helping the driver who he is training (who was a friend of his prior to him training her - yes it is a female.) We've had discussions about all of this but he just cant see, to sit down long enough to really talk. He used to be my best friend and now I don't even know him. He used to like to just sit in his chair and watch tv and now if he gets a few hours of sleep at a time while he's home that is good.

Anyway - apparently this is all part of the job....so thanks again for posting this. Hopefully our marriage can survive this. I am doing everything I can to hang in there.
