Randy’s Truck Driving School – Day 6

Randy was all excited and relieved to tell me that, early in the day, he passed his backing test on the first try. He was nervous, so he did lose 2 points (could miss 12 and pass). He’s been backing trailers (on and off over the years) since he was 16, but said that being trained in proper techniques has increased his confidence. He said the thing he misses most about home is “me making dinner”. What??? Shouldn’t he have just said “me”? The thing I miss most, at least right now, is just being able to sleep.

Randy’s Truck Driving School – Day 5

Oh, I can’t believe my husband’s been gone less than a week, it feels like a month! Usually time goes by so quickly but now it’s just dragging, even though I’ve been ridiculously busy. His CDL training has been fast-paced and tough.

Randy’s Truck Driving School – Day 4

Almost a week has gone by now and things are rolling along. Some people are doing well, others not so much, and the time apart is not getting any easier.

Randy’s Truck Driving School – Day 3

The fast pace of CDL training at truck driving school continues as students continue to drop out of the program due to health and background issues.

Randy’s Truck Driving School – Day 2

The pace of CDL training has started out very fast and it’s been a tough adjustment in lifestyle for both my husband and myself.

Randy At Truck Driving School – Day 1

Well, I spoke to Randy for nearly an hour last night about his first full day at truck driving school, and it was over a 12-hour marathon starting at 7 am. Ha, he thinks I’m a genius now for all the research I’ve done!

First Week of Company-Sponsored Schooling

Well it’s Sunday and I have just completed my first week of truck driving school. This is my first and only day off for this week! What a week it has been!

Oh Where, Oh Where Did the Wolfie Go?

After many long weeks, a minor back injury, and some trouble with one of the tests, my CDL schooling is coming to an end and it appears I’ve landed my first truck driving job. Oh happy days!

In This Economy, The Cream Is Rising To The Top

Unemployement offices may be encouraging people to look outside of trucking. Why? Truck driving jobs are available, but many trucking companies have been able to be more selective in this slower economy than they have in the past.

Week 3, Day 1: Double the Trouble, Double the Fun.

We had some interesting things today, including pulling doubles, 45 degree sight-side backing, and a new instructor for the road trip.

Truck Driving School – Week 2, day 4 – The Truck demands a sacrifice!

Day four (4/30) of my journey towards becoming an Over the Road driver was rather exciting.  As with the rest of the week, we started out in the yard today.  We had a different yard instructor, so things were slightly different….

On The Road Again: Week 2, Day 3 of CDL Training

Today there was a variety of activities, including speaking to a few recruiters, pre-trip inspections, two types of backing, and a short trip on the highway.

Beginning Week Two Of CDL Training: What Do You Mean, ‘Don’t Hit That Car’?

Day two of week two dawned (if you want to call it that) chilly and rainy.  Of course, that’s typical for the Pacific Northwest at this time of year. Our truck driver training is advancing into new stages.

The First Week Of My CDL Training

So, finally I got into the school on 4/20 and started the classroom phase.  My school required that we have already gotten the CDL permit and all five of the required endorsements (combination vehicle, doubles/triples, air brakes, tanker, and hazardous materials).  That said, the school did provide two days of review over the general knowledge [...]

CDL Exam Day: Hoping To Get My License – Not An Ulcer

Olah! I haven’t written for a few weeks, so I have to catch everyone up on how things have been going. I finished school. That’s right. I’m now allowed to drive one of the biggest, baddest vehicles on the road. I can pull tankers full of gas, or truck loads of paper cups. Anything that [...]
