Your training at this point matches what I did with my major carrier. What to eat/not eat and even warning you that the fuel islands are very slippery so be careful/wear proper shoes while fueling to prevent injuries.

Again, you can now see that you just do not hand over keys to a semi to a licensed driver of a 4-wheeler and say "get in the truck and hook up the trailer and go to______" It just can not be done!!!!

Having the phone numbers also helps the driver and it does show that all are behind the driver 24/7. They may be used by you and again it might not be needed.

The roads are so congested anymore and the hardest part of the job is just being SAFE. Your actions or lack of may create an accident. 4-wheelers create situations daily which may or may not cause accidents. The other duties drivers have fall into place when dealing with being SAFE.

I may only have 7 years in as a driver and you being a "newbie" have already done more than me by going west and driving in the mountains. I was perfectly happy staying in the midwest. Each driver brings experiance to each new job even if they did not do the coast to coast travel. Looking forward to the next post.
