Truck Driving Program

Clark State Community College offers Class A and Class B CDL licensing training for corporate employees as well as newcomers to the industry. CTTC offers several truck driver programs in four-week courses beginning with 40 hours of classroom instruction that includes defensive driving, logbook and hours of service, map reading and trip planning, vehicle inspection, vehicle familiarization, coupling and uncoupling and backing. Following that is another 120 hours of dedicated truck driving training. Job placement assistance is provided if needed.

What are qualifications for the Truck Driving Program?

The admission requirements listed below are used by the industry in screening perspective employees for truck driving jobs.

  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Have a good driving record
  • Be at least 21 years of age (18 in the State of Ohio)
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Be interviewed by a faculty member of the Commercial Transportation Training Center

What Truck Driving Programs are Available?

Clark State's Commercial Transportation Training Center (CTTC) offers several truck driver programs of varying duration and intensity. Programs conclude with the participants obtaining Class A or Class B CDL licensing. Job placement assistance is available if needed.

CDL A Truck Driver Program

  • Four-week truck driver course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and starts with 40 hours of classroom instruction that includes defensive driving, logbook and hours of service, map reading and trip planning, vehicle inspection, vehicle familiarization, coupling and uncoupling and backing. Another 120 hours are dedicated to truck training.
  • Range work consisting of right and left turns, alley dock, shifting skills, safe backing skills, normal and panic stopping and conventional parallel park.
  • Over-the-road driving portion consists of training on all types of roads: city, county, state and interstate highways. Class size ranges from 15 students, which allows our school to provide the individual training that might be needed by our students.
  • The cost of the four-week CDL-A truck driver program is $5,500.

Also available are a Class B endorsement program, a weekend training program, and a tractor-trailer refresher program.
