Introduction to Greenville Technical College

The Truck Driver Training Department at Greenville Technical College will provide a high-quality credit program over the course of nine weeks. This course is designed for entry-level commercial drivers to meet industry needs, in a modern, comfortable facility with contemporary vehicles and equipment. GTC's qualified staff focuses on student's success.

Admission Requirements

  • Complete application and take placement tests.
  • Be prepared to meet and interview with a faculty member.
  • Students must be at least 18 years old to drive locally and 21 to drive interstate.
  • Students must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • The ability to pass a DOT medical physical and drug screen.
  • Acceptable placement test scores.
  • No felony convictions involving a motor vehicle.

State and federal regulations govern the qualifications and standards for truck drivers. GTC will ensure you possess a strong knowl­edge base in the latest technologies along with extensive hands-on experience.

The Truck Driver Training Certificate program includes:

  • Long haul
  • Short haul
  • Local Operations
  • Basics for over-the-road travel
  • Rules and regulations of the Department of Transportation
  • Preparation for the written and driving portions of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) test.

State and federal regulations dictate that drivers of trucks designed to carry 26,000 pounds or more must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) from the state of residence. Graduates of the program may qualify for a Class A CDL by passing the written test and demonstrating safe operation of a commercial truck.
