Metropolitan Community College offers several commercial truck driving programs that provide students with the potential for immediate employment. MCC classes are offered both day and night, with standard six or nine-week programs. MCC also offers a more in depth 28-week course of instruction that gives you engine fundamentals, preventative maintenance, CPR, First-Aid, and work experience. Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) requires a higher level of knowledge, experience, skills, and physical abilities than are required to drive a non-commercial vehicle. Students must pass both skills and knowledge testing geared to these higher standards.
MCC offers a training program that consists of two segments that run concurrently. Class-A CDL Theory Training includes instructions on how to keep a log book (electronic and paper), understand how to comply with state and federal regulations, fundamentals of safety in and around heavy vehicles, vehicle inspection, entry level driver basics, trip planning, load securement, and much more.
Class-A CDL Road Training includes hands-on training with a truck. This course will teach students all of the required skills necessary to prepare for the DMV road tests: inspecting the vehicle, backing skills and behind-the-wheel driving on streets and highways. Final DMV skills testing will be conducted during the last week of class.
