Becoming inactive pros and cons

A few companies have told me to take a refresher course already. Theres one or two that will hire me with just my 6 months experience from 5 years ago.

Howdy!

Welcome to Trucking Truth. With only 6 mths experience, you don't have enough experience to take time off for a couple years and then come back to driving without going thru refresher school.

I don't know WA law, so can't comment on the going inactive part of your comment. I would just keep everything current if it was me.

Becoming inactive pros and cons

My DOT medical card is expiring in a few months and I dont want to pay for another one until I start driving again. I talked to a lady at the DMV and she said I can become inactive and not worry about my Med Card until I start driving CDL vehicles again. I live in Washington state and want to make sure she is correct? I have like 6 months trucking experience and 5 years bus driving experience. I might take a year or two off trying another profession. Would becoming inactive affect my chances for finding a job at most places? What are the cons i am not seeing for making myself inactive for a bit?

Only have 6 months of OTR 5 years ago. What are my job prospects?

I went through a private school that I fully paid off. I stopped driving because i found out about bus driving and wanted a local job. I was also didnt feel very mature and ready for trucking. Bus driving doesnt pay alot and I want to get a gig that will allow me to make much more.

Only have 6 months of OTR 5 years ago. What are my job prospects?

I been driving bus for the past five years but originally got my CDL for trucking. Drove with Swift for about 6 months and decided to go with a job that was local. I want to get back into trucking but 2 potential employers said they wanted me to take a refresher course. The school that i graduated from is asking for 2k. Are there any companies that you know of that will hire me without going through a refresher? oh Schneider said they would hire me, but if you have any more suggestions that would be awesome. Do you think id be eligible for experienced driver bonuses and pay?

Excepted intrastate to avoid renewing DOT medical Card Washington state

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but i dont know how to navigate this site to find it. I was let go from my last company a month ago and my medical card is expiring at the end of the year. I want to try another job that doesnt require a CDL for a little while. I really dont want to spend money to get my card renewed. I was wondering if I can avoid doing that if i went to the DMV and certify that I will be an excepted intrastate driver. Is this the right path to not having to maintain a Medical card? Will i be able to change back to interstate when i decide to do commercial driving again? Do most companies want you to maintain it or will they pay for a new one most of the time? I have like 1 year Class A and 5 Class B if that info helps.
