Ding, ding, ding we have a winner. PCA in Newark, I would have given extra credit for adding Door #1. First time there I had to go down that narrow lane on top of the tracks through the extremely crowded back lot come back around the building and then pull up that alley way and back across traffic to drop in door one. Even with a day cab you are blocking 3/4 of the road. Office lady's comment was "People are used to it."

Was there a month or so ago on a Sunday doing a drop and hook when they were closed. You have to go in through the exit and I had to move 2 FAB trailers in order to get to my empty.

I have also seen FAB trailers at Buckeye on Long Ave in Wooster and I think Skybox in Mansfield.

Brandie...what'sup? My daughter started at NEWMAN TECH.. her first job; on a cross career thingie... wow! Now, she's a machinist/CNC lathe runner, at PR Machinery (IN MANSFIELD!) and in the USAF reserves. (No grandkids, tho.... sheesh..)

My 23 year old was born at Medcentral (Mansfield General)-- and literally gave me grandchild number 4 on Monday!! My sister and her husband still live in Mansfield and both graduated from Sr. High (T-Y for Tigers :D) Niece and Nephew went to Madison Comp. Spent several years in Mansfield-- but moved a smidgen south to get out of that lake effect snow!

So.. talked with a recruiter from Prime today.. been told to get my permit then call back and she'll get me scheduled.

So I guess you can say that I'm a Prime Candidate.

I know you are running part time USPS . . . but if that ever becomes 'lacking' for what you need, please feel free to either email me for #'s, or just 'look into' FAB Express. They've been REALLY good to my guy (and Don on here, who started with CFI) for quite some time.

Thanks Anne. I've gotten kind of spoiled. I don't want to work too much and I expect to get paid a lot when I do. The mail gig is on call. I've told them they can call me whenever they like, expect me to say no but I might say yes. Last week I worked for them Thur, Fri, Sat and Sunday so my friend there could have off to go the the Dirt Track stock car races in Florence, KY. Three trips each day back and worth from Sharonville, Oh to Dayton, Oh. About 80 miles each trip, took less than 8 hours and was paid $300/day.

Regular part time job is 3 days week hauling cardboard to various places NE of Cincinnati then picking up a backhaul of paper rolls from the Greif mill in Massilon, Ohio.

I am thinking about taking off from both jobs for a few months to work harvest season for the farm I worked for last year because it was a lot of fun. Last year I drove under farm exemption but now that I have a valid intrastate cdl again I can do more for them.

Speaking of FAB ask your husband if he knows where these pictures were taken.

He says the lane goes all the way down across the train tracks, and you stop across the tracks to get your ppwk. He parks his empties way out back.

All good! Used to live in that half of the state.. my daughter was actually born in Mansfield.

I'm about as close as you are to Trenton-- I'm in Camp Washington. So-- factoring in that I have a straight shot and your had to deal with the loop.. its probably about the same.

They were the first company that I heard back from-- and the first that I submitted a full application to. Haven't heard back since-- but I'm going to give them a call on Monday and see what I can see.

Taking the CDL class on my own may be my act of last resort-- because I DO see where others are coming from in the difference between a company having "skin in the game" or not. My preference is to start out OTR and then maybe transition into regional down the road as I get older.

Oh heck.. I meant next February-- I'm sorry you're stuck in the IRS hellscape... I've been lucky and I generally get mine back no later than March.

I may be waiting for taxes as well.. for a twofold reason...

1. Money for the fam while I'm gone and

2. While my job history for 2021 and 2020 is stellar.... 2019 was a super bad year. I was trying to hold on to a 20 year career that was falling apart, and then my spouse got sick-- so my work history for that year is nightmare fuel. It has already resulted in one "Can't do it until next year" (no more than 5 jobs in 3 years-- and 2019 pushes me over the edge with them).

The money for the fam part could resolve before tax season-- but if I get another company wanting me to hold off because of 2019.. well... I guess I will hold off.

Even though I haven't started training yet myself, the biggest pitfall I see with this is the fact that when you hire on with a company with your CDL in hand, the company doesn't have a penny invested in you. Have an accident? There's the door, the company has no financial stake in keeping you. Can't make your pickups or deliveries on time? There's the door. The company isn't out anything by letting you go. On the other hand, with company paid training, they have an investment in you. They are more inclined to overlook certain things in order to get a return on their investment.

Fair enough.. I'm just trying to figure out the best path and its so hard to wait once you've figured out what you want to do!
