KLLM Truck Driving Academy - Lancaster, TX

Thank you Zen Joker. 🙂

About the KLLM Training Academy;

Men and Women stay at the hotel until after the CLP test. Once you obtain your CLP, men are moved to the dorms on campus, while women stayed at the hotel. A shuttle is provided to and from the hotel. Laundry & shower facilities are available for those staying in the dorms.

There is an onsite cafeteria, where breakfast, lunch & dinner are free for Academy students, daily. Coffee, tea and hot water are available all day long at no charge.

[Breakfast:] Oatmeal, cereal, fresh fruit or the breakfast of the day. Breakfast tacos with potatoes cubes on the side the one day I had breakfast.

[Lunch:] Meal of the day was Roasted Chicken with black eyed peas and cabbage. There are other items available to purchase all cheaply priced. (Chicken tenders, salads, cheeseburgers, fries) Soda machine is open at lunch time. (Free!)

[Dinner] Dinner is a repeat of lunch.

Mentioning all this, because I feel like KLLM has definitely stepped up to provide its students the amenities needed to attend the Academy, and not stress about how they will afford to eat or take care of daily necessities.

At the end of week 2, every student will be given a $250 gift card. At the end of week 3, after obtaining your CDL, another $250 gift card is given to each student.

** I haven't actually asked where, but one of the students went and got a free haircut from a barber somewhere at the Academy.

DOT physical is thorough. (Long form) Drug and alcohol test, urine and hair follicle.

We are a mixed class with some drivers training for FFE and the rest for KLLM. You have until Thursday to decide. We started out with 20 students. After the CLP and DOT physicals, we are down to 9.

There are multiple training groups at the Academy at the same time. 1st Week Class 2nd Week Class 3rd Week Class

I already had my CLP, so I did not attend Mon-Wed. Thursday was DOT physical and drug/alchohol test, completing paperwork, 2 slide shows with quizzes at the end, and contract signing. After lunch, we went out to the range. We were informed we would be doing straight line backing. Let me tell you, having never even seen the inside of a truck, aside from the slide show, I was daunted. We broke down into 2 smaller groups and our trainer went over the inside of the truck for about 5 minutes, then we took our turn getting behind the wheel, ALONE and pulling up and straight line backing. I did not do well. The trainer was patient, even on my third attempt. After 3 hours on the range, we went back inside and did one more slide show and quiz. Day Over.

Friday, a couple slide shows and quizzes, then back out to the range for straight line backing. We got an hour lunch break, but basically spent all day practicing straight line backing. (Still wasnt doing it right, was frustrated at this point.) One more slide show and quiz, and then homework was assigned, Day Two Over.

Saturday, Slide show and discussion about Offset Backing. Went over the steps multiple times. Hit the range right afterward to perform offset backing manuever solo, with trainer assistance. Had an hour long lunch, then we were instructed to do 1 straight line back and one offset backing without assistance. (They helped if you got yourself into trouble 🤫) Trainers are evaluating every students abilities at this point. I nailed the offset backing but I was struggling with straight line backing. The director came over and provided some critique and suggested a different method than I was attempting. My next 2 manuevers were great! Inside for homework assignment and then, Day Three Over!

We were notified Friday that we will be going out and driving on the streets of Lancaster, TX on Tuesday. This is definitely accelerated learning!

That is a very long post, but im hoping to give a little more insight into KLLM for folks looking into paid CDL training. After week one, I am very happy with my decision to train with KLLM. Stay tuned, I will try and give a brifer summary next Sunday, along with any additional facts I learn.

Safe journeys until then y'all!

Just got my welcome letter to join next weeks class. I will be starting Thursday February 16, 2023. Will try and update as class goes along, so that other people have an idea about the experience. ** I will not be utilizing the schools housing during training, but others will be staying at the Sleep Inn Suites of Lancaster. Breakfast and lunch can be purchased at the Academy cafeteria. 🤞
