Finally got my DOT physical done and passed the written tests for my permit. Contacted my recruiter at Knight and waiting to find out when I can go through orientation and start training.

DOT Physical BEFORE Permit?

Here in Arizona you need to have your physical before they will let you get your permit. Call your local DMV/MVD and ask to be sure thou. Whatever school your voting through should also be able to tell you.

Passport book or just card?

Looking into getting various things in order for driving and I know one of the big things is a passport. Is it necessary to have the passport book or will the passport card suffice? I read that the passport card will grant you re-entry into the US from Canada, Mexico, and a few other places but will this be acceptable for CDL purposes? The passport card is about half the price of the book, so don't want to have to spend the extra money if I don't really need it.

I passed?...I passed!!!

Thats great news Jason, Glad the forum and the rest of the site were able to help you along your way. Is System Transport a local company up there in Washington? Congratulations on passing your test and your new job, now comes the fun part getting to drive and getting paid for it.

I think is pretty awesome that we had 2 guys pass their road test in the same day.

"I Passed :-) "

That sounds great, they are definitely one of the companies I had been considering since they offer local company sponsored schooling through a private school. I have watched a few youtube videos from Werner drivers that seem rather content with them, so would be interested in hearing how your journey goes if you do go with them or whoever you do go with.

Continental Truck Driving School in Lancaster Tx

Good news for today! It seems that Tim and I are still the top dogs for parallel parking. Unfortunately that means that since we didn't need to practice we sat on the sidelines all day (except for our 15 minute run each this morning). Today was insanely long and hot and humid. Did I mention long?! Jeez.

Hey thats awesome, any advice on suggestions for those of us that will be having to complete the same challenge?

Small hiccup in the plans

Yeah I thought it was CR England, but I also thought I remember you saying that you wanted to go with them since you could go to school and wouldn't have to leave home to do it. I didn't see a school for CR England in Michigan so I was confused.

Did a quick search for trucking companies in your area that are looking for new trainees, found this particular one with several ads and seems interesting. Also found a lot of ads for swift looking for new hires out of the Michigan area too, surprised they told you no. Follow this link and check them out, they may have a different view on the meds than CR England.

If your not opposed to going out of state for your training there are a couple other bigger company sponsored schools that weren't on your list that would be worth looking into.

Or you could wait a few months and try again with CR England, but personally when I run into road blocks I just find a different route to what I want. So with the goal being to getting you on the road as soon as possible, I'd do a little more digging into these other companies that you haven't tried.

Tanya, you had applied with CR England right? I think you had said a while back that they were the only company that you had applied with that would take you on due to your home state. What other companies had you applied to?

Weight of truck and trailor

Daniel, a new driver makes 42c per mile in those lightweights.

.42 a mile is pretty darn good for a new driver! Have seen info on some companies that start out at about 1/2 of that.
