New guy with a permit. Need advice on companies!

Yea you need to decide what kind of work you might want to do given the different lifestyles. I couldn't stand just holding the steering wheel for 11 hours straight every day, that would massively depress me. But I don't mind securing loads even in really harsh weather, so machinery is perfect for me.

Try to learn what you can and the different types and make a decision.

So I got a warning yesterday!

If you have a ticket and it's dismissed the inspection can be tossed with it. Dealing with an inspection alone isn't as simple.

Warnings are generally written with inspection reports by dot, especially out of scales for anything that is csa reportable.

That's why I said to ask for the ticket.

Warnings give CSA points in the exact same way as tickets, although warnings are much harder to contest. Demanding a ticket for something you can probably win in court works best. I'd recommend getting a dashcam that supports in video speed tracking. Often times, you won't actually have to go to court, but just tell him you have a dash cam that records your speed as proof that he's lying.

Not necessarily. In this case, it’s the inspection which will automatically report it and all the more reason to demand the citation. For example, you pull into a weigh station and you’re overweight on an axle but under gross. You might get a warning, you might even get a ticket but as long as an inspection isn’t performed, it’s merely the fine with no psp points assigned to the driver and no CSA points to the company.

HOS violation

This is one of the Grey areas of trucking that falls in the limited violation set. Are you technicaly ticketable yea, but most officers live in the real world to and you would need to find one who's wife is cheating on him so he is in a bad mood and looking to dish out pain. Is simple really, do you gain anything from interrupting your 10 and having to start over, no. So it's obvious something ****y happened and you weren't trying to slip a cheat in.
