Considering a career and possible obsaticles

To start off, the obstacles are not to do with health, criminal or even driving, they more have to do with the fact I have not held a job in over 10 years. The only jobs I have held were when I was in my early 20s (I am 31 now) and I was not in the mindset for those at that stage in my life. I was discharged from the military just a few days short of a year, Then worked at a Mc Donalds and then in a grocer (If your around the New England area... you'll know what a Stop&Shop is :P ) as a deli worker. And finally my last obstacle... no GED or equivalent..... Although Some companies do not say having one is a requirement.

I am mostly just curious, with my history, how difficult it would be to get into this lifestyle.
