So i am all alone now.

My buddy and i went through all the schooling and through training together. We finally get all done and get our own truck and hit the open road. A week into it and he says "i am not happy doing this" gets a rental car and goes home. I was like holy crap. All that work and money down the tubes. That sucks. So i send a message on qualcomm. "Driver 2 bailed, i need to be switched to solo and redispatched" lol. No hard feelings here. If your not happy, then no sense in hating what you do.

On a good note i am kinda enjoying my "prison cell" by my self. Its like it got twice the size over night. Also its way easier to sleep at night when the truck is not bouncing all around. I did drive solo for a week after i tested out cause i was on the other side of the country. And i did not mind it. The hardest part is getting shut down for the night. That aggravates the **** outta me.

Anyone with swift understand their layover pay

I think the idea here is put in for and if you get it, great. If not then just blow it off. There were a couple of good points made about getting what you have coming to you. I totally agree with this because the company will not hesitate to get every dime out of you if the coin is turned. Knowing this, i was at a TA did not have running water at the pumps for some reason so i had to go buy a gallon of water to top off coolant reservoir. I scanned the receipt for reimbursement.

Anyone with swift understand their layover pay

Well finally with my best friend and co driver now. We got dispatched out of florida after being told to be there 12/31/14 at 8am. Got our newer, more suitable team truck assigned to us and then the waiting began. Got to spend new years in a terminal. Then we got a preplan the next morning. So we promptly accepted. Got going and realized we were gonna be a day early for a live load. I called and got in early. Then come to find out it was a solo run. So we sat 2 days all together for 2 stops. Then we finally do our empty call and get preplaned for our next drop and hook in Kentucky to denver. A mile away and cant pick up for 24 hours. Soooo once again, sitting. Wtf. So back to my point. Does anyone understand swifts layover plan because ironically the 200 pages of the handbook explain everything that you cant do, who you cant have sex with, and that they can fire you fir any reason but only mention detenion pay with 50 reasons you wont get it. Thanks

New driver just about to finish driving school needs advise

I am currently attending truck driving school in Dallas and have began driving on the range. The instructor tells me that it is coming to me naturally. I have a couple of job offers already but my only concern is my weight, i have already made changes to my lifestyle to begin to lose weight and plan to continue once driving. I hear being overweight it is assumed that you have sleep apnea. As far as i know i do not have it but i am sure i will be required to be tested. Can anyone tell me what all is typically done during an orientation such as physicals, agility testing and such? I have offers from prime as well as crete.

I work for swift. I am 5' 10 and weight 250. More stocky than anything. If you have the long form from school they will not send you for physical. They will just take the one you got. There were a few guys in orientation that were pretty big and had no issues either.

What's so bad about start up companies

Dont even turn on the cb myself. I however see the rudeness all the time. They wont flash you over, they wont give a "thank you" flash when you flash them over. So i also make sure i give a little "whats up" nod as we pass each other and i always flash them over. And i will even back off a mph or 2 if someone is having a hard time getting past me. I do all this in hopes that maybe they will rember that and "pay it forward"

Transgender women truckers

Interesting. I have been alot of places and seen alot if things, but i have seen the most diverse group of people in the industry. Its kinda wierd cause a couple months ago if i saw a trasgender person i would be like wow. Now after spending time in terminals and truck stops its like second nature. Good luck to you, and happy new year.
