Out of the possible thousands of trucking companies I'm not going to worry about one or two adopting in cab cams. By the time it goes nationwide I'm sure I'll be dead. Hell elogs are suppose to be the next big thing and my company still hasn't even considered it yet. I'll worry about it when and if I ever have to.

This is why I will continue trucking. I like it and unless there is an act of congress (unlikely), these units will not be placed in many trucks. I will just avoid carriers that employ this tech. It really does take a year to know what you want out of trucking and this experience has highlighted some important values. It's to bad because SWIFT is a good company and still is if these driver cams do not bother you.

I am not leaving to protest nor am I stomping my foot throwing a fit. This camera would most likely make me physically ill because it is so against my core values. It is more like a survival response.

Deductive reasoning and over 5 years developing monitoring systems that make this truck cam look like a fisher price toy says otherwise.

Snow your a good person, trusting soul. I sincerely wish I had more of that trait. Adults lie all the time and often for good reason. Politicians lie to get into office, if they told the truth know one would believe him or they would hate him. Sales men lie trying to get you to buy something you really don't need. Your friends will lie because the truth is just sometimes to boring. When you get announcements like SWIFT you sometimes have to listen to what they are not saying. They could be using language to missdirect you. The streaming video phrase is a perfect example. He said there will be no streaming video and I believe him. If you have two critical events back to back the two files will be uploaded to the storage servers. Using a cronological linked list and running them through a video loop can create a video longer than 20 seconds. If I can write the code to do this in my head while driving a semi I can guarantee the code monkeys at this software shop have already done it. Is it streaming video? Technically no, the probability for them to make a video longer than 20 seconds is very high though. I also took into consideration the audience, they were more than likely getting a lot of questions about streaming and thats why they added it. The real question is would they use this method to make these videos, not do they have the capability to do so. A smart man knows half of everything he hears is a lie, I wise man knows which half to listen too.

You must remember that this is a business and it needs money to pay me. I just do not believe that the driver cams are to help drivers like they said in the video. They are there to save/generate money. This is not a bad thing, I can see clearly how the dash cams are going to help me and my company. Driver cams there are just too many questions and my gut is screaming at me more than my rational mind to get out ASAP. Sometimes your gut is right.

Finally, you will notice after a few weeks out here solo that we are segregated from the general public. Many of the shippers/recievers will have thick walls with reinforced doors and plexy glass seperating us from them. Many of our own terminals are set up this way. It's a tough job and spending weeks or more out here will make you different in ways from them. It's all good because the people who deal with us at face value (waitresses, truckers, mechanics) are some of the best people I have ever met. I am very uncomfortable with someone who does not deal with truckers on the street level analyzing me over a video. When I have been running hard for a week or two I am sure many outside this trucking world think "who the #### let this guy out?"

Finally for those of you saying if I have nothing to hide, I should not be worried. Trucking does not exactly work like that. If I were to follow every law to the letter I would literally starve to death or the company (rightfully) would find a reason to get rid of me. (SWIFT has been very good about saftey concerns and has a culture that surrounds it.) I am safe, I will not even buy a blue tooth in over 9 months of driving because conversation distracts me to much. My trucker buddies give me a lot of flack for that lol. I still have much to learn and it's going to take time for me to get professional at this and it will you also.

Big difference between cameras watching my dock ay Walmart vs watching me in my truck is choice. I don't have much of a choice with out side cameras, I do with the in cabs. I don't know where u got the big man stuff from. I am 1 trucker out of 2,500,000 nationwide. 1 trucker out of 178,000 OTR, 1 trucker out of 10,000 + at my company. Im not a big man, im a statistic. This man has only one option if he does not wish to be under constant A/V watch. Find another carrier who does not use this tech or go back to what I was doing before.

We are all being squeezed from both companies and government. Today the rights of groups overide the rights of a individual.

SWIFT has a lot of old truckers in the upper brass. I bet some of them don't even like this. They are being squeezed by government, the public and insurance cost. The government is being squeezed by the public and corporations. It's one big cluster ####.

Non of that maters to me. All I know is I will not live my life under 24 hour A/V watch unless I am held against my will in a prison.

Are you getting any type of compensation for recruiting and or promoting trucking Brett?

Is this a lifestyle or job? I spend most my life doing this job and I did not sign up to be on candid camera all my life. I already made up my mind about swift. I even wrote my DM a nice long letter on the QC telling them in short what I have said here. Funny, I have had 3 people from various offices call me wanting to talk. There is nothing to talk about, they have about 6 months to change my mind. I dont subscribe to this fascist BS and never will. BTW called the 800 number on the video. They received so many calls from truckers that it broke the corporate phone system. My only solice is that QC's have been around since the 80's and I still see lots of trucks without them, hopefully this tech will be slow to catch on.

IDK, I really like OTR. If I were a family man I would defiantly be interested though. Right now I squirm out of every city run they offer me ;-) ... Maybe down the road though, you never know.

For the quality home time question you may want to look into Roehl. They have a 7 on 7 off team program. I hear the money is not great but sounds like thats not your main objective.

I agree about the trucks, alot of fun to drive :-P
