Being a truck driver with diabetes.

Thank you, Paul W. and Rick S. for replying. It was a shock to me that they told me I have diabetes. My doctor told me that the symptoms that I show are most likely type 2 of diabetes. My grandfather had type 2 diabetes later on while being a truck driver so it does run in my family. The reason why my glucose level being that high I would think is because I weight 325 pounds only being 26 years old. I don't get that much exercise but I would change that and do anything that I have to so I don't have to be on the insulin injections. At the moment I am not on a diet I just eat fast food most of the time and that is the reason I have diabetes. I would think by walking around for 30m to an hour a day would be the good exercise for my diabetes. Is it hard to eat well on the road?

Being a truck driver with diabetes.

I had my Dot physical this week everything went ok I pass all the test for the physical but during the drug test they found sugar so they test my blood sugar level to see what my glucose I had. My glucose level was at 300 and because I have a Med hold. I want would to know how is it like being a truck driver while having diabetes? Don't know if my diabetes is type 1 or type 2. From what I was told you can't use the injection insulin only the pills but is it only type 1 diabetes that needs the injections?

The cost of a sleep study?

hello, I hear that if you have a BMI over 35 or something like that truck driving companies would force you to take a sleep study. I have a BMI of 38. How much do the sleep study cost? From what I read on the forums is that some companies would pay for the sleep study but would take it out of your paycheck each week is that true? I think that I might need to get a sleep study done because I have a hard time going to bed and I feel tired during the day.

Dot Physical

Thank you Tractor Man for your reply. I ask him about that and he wants me to make a log of my blood pressure for a week before going on any medication.

Dot Physical

Hello, I am going to start truck driving school on October 10. I was able to visit my doctor today and my pressure is 156/100. The question that I have is he told me that I would not be able to pass Dot Physical with my blood pressure that high. I read the forums that if you have that high of blood pressure they would give you a medical card for one month. I am kind of confused on if I would fail the Dot physical or not.

Question about High Road Training Program

I am studying the High Road Training program before I go to truck driving school in a few weeks or so. There if a question on the program that I don’t understand why is it wrong. Should both single vehicle with a GVWR of less than 16,001 pounds and combination vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 be both right? I ask this because it says that you need a class D to be able to drive a single vehicle with a GVWR of less than 16,001 so why is it saying that you can drive that with a class B? A class B CDL holder can operate any of the following, except:

• Single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds

• Single vehicle with a GVWR of less than 16,001 pound

• Single vehicle with a GVWR of at least 16,001 pounds but less than 26,001 pounds

• Combination vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds providing the GVWR of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds

Quote From The CDL Manual: o Class A Combination vehicles GCWR* of 26,001 or more pounds providing the GVWR of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.

o Class B Single vehicle with a GVWR* of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.

o Class C Single vehicle with a GVWR* of at least 16,001 pounds but less than 26,001 pounds.

o Class D Single vehicle with a GVWR* of less than 16,001 pounds.

DOT Physical

Thank You Old School for the welcome and a fast replay. Would just taking the medication bring it back to normal? How hard is it to have a normal blood pressure while doing over the road truck driving?

DOT Physical

I am in the process of becoming a truck driver, but I'm worried about the Dot physical test. I have not been to the doctor is many years and am worried that I might have high blood pressure. What happens when you go to the dot physical but have high blood pressure? Has this happened to anyone? Do you just fail the physical?

Pets while trucking

Hello want to know how is it like to have pets with you while being a driver? Is it worth it to have your pet with you? How are the pets when they are in the truck for so long? Do they wake you up during the night? Do most companies let you take pets with you?

How is Henderson trucking?

Hello there I am curious about Henderson Trucking and want to see what you guys know or think on the matter. I been reading up forms and asking questions on the truckers report and lots of guys there HATE on Swift and telling me that I should look at Henderson Trucking. I was told that the class size they have is around 10 people a class or so and if that is so I would think that would be better environment then being in a class with 50+ like Swift does.
