Wildfires in Oregon, Washington causing road closures and HOS exemptions

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, I-84 between Troutdale and Hood River remains closed as well as the Historic Columbia River Highway with no timeline available for their reopening.

Washington State Route 14 is open to passenger traffic, but closed to commercial vehicles.

In Washington, all vehicles over 10,000 GVW are prohibited on eastbound SR 14 between Washougal (milepost 19) and U.S. 197 in Dallesport (milepost 84). Freight haulers should plan an alternate route. There is no estimate for lifting the restrictions.

Waive the size and weight restrictions for divisible loads on any vehicles transporting emergency equipment, services, supplies, and agricultural commodities and citrus as recommended by the Commissioner of Agriculture, allowing the establishment of alternate size and weight restrictions for all such vehicles for the duration of the emergency. The DOT shall issue permits and such vehicles shall be subject to such special conditions as the DOT may endorse on any such permits. Nothing in this Executive Order shall be construed to allow any vehicle to exceed weight limits posted for bridges and like structures, or relieve any vehicle or the carrier, owner, or driver of any vehicle from compliance with any restrictions other than those specified in this Executive Order, or from any statute, rule, order or other legal requirement not specifically waived herein or by supplemental order by the State Coordinating Officer;

Florida has waived size and weight regulations for any vehicle “transporting emergency equipment, services, supplies, and agricultural commodities and citrus.”

I attended my local community college. It was an 8 week class, Monday-Friday, from 8AM-1:15PM. I also continued to work my previous job from 3PM-11PM. My off days from work were Tuesday & Thursday. Maybe this gives you an idea of an option you could look at.

So Swift runs for Walmart? I thought most of their drivers were employees.
